On the weekend of 13-14th November 2021, Rude FM’s DJs past and present came together to celebrate and pay tribute to one of the original and long-time Rude FM DJs, DJ General, who was with the station between 1996 and 2008 and who sadly passed away in September. Guest Mix #131 - Deadline

The "JDNB Family" mix series is focussed on the artists we have working with us at JDNB and the second entry is a jungle and drum & bass mix brought to you by Bren.

Bren has been a part of the JDNB journey and family from very early on, from Editor, to Chief Editor, and now the JDNB Website Manager.

Hailing from County Durham in the North East of England, Bren's music legacy picked up traction in 1984 when he first began mixing hip-hop and electro, then progressing onto the underground realms of breakcore. After showing the many strings he has to his bow, then witnessing the birth of jungle and drum & bass, this is now all Bren mixes (apart from an occasional flirt with breakbeat).

Now residing in East London, Bren still thrives on the old-school jungle style and, even though they are recently released, you will find that the tracks in this mix all hold the same old-school fundamentals.

JDNB Family Series #002 - Bren

Jazz Anthem from @oodinidnb is a drum & bass track that flips classic jazz elements into something far more unstable. Built on fast breaks, distorted low-end textures, and scattered horn samples, it leans into atmosphere and tone 🔥

The intro sets a fragmented mood - jazzy but tense - before dropping into a loose, rolling rhythm. The bass growls without dominating, and the drums carry a raw texture that fits the rave aesthetic 🙌🏻

Impression is a DJ and producer currently residing in Saint Augustine, Florida. In the last few years, since the pandemic, he has truly found his sound within the realm of smooth, vibey, rhythmic Drum & Bass. He recently has released tunes on several prominent labels such as Fokuz, Celsius, FX909 Music, Soul Deep, Headsbass, Influenza Media, Soul Trader, Liquid Drops, Theoryon Records and Rolled Up Records. On top of that he has recently contributed music to the charity Liquid Drum & Bass 4 Autism presents: 'USA vs. U.K. A friendly Exhibition', 

Growing up in South Florida in the peak of the rave wave of the 90's he found himself inspired by this movement and became co-founder of the Y.O.U. crew. He established several residencies over the years and shared the stage with the biggest and greatest names in Drum & Bass. In 2008 he partnered and launched the label 'Urban Chemistry' under the name 'Fusion' and released tracks with DnB greats like Stunna, Submorphics, Command Strange and Mutt just to name a few.

Around this time Impression also started a weekly show on Bassdrive.com called 'Lab Sessions' which has been running deep for almost 17 years. With roots in the culture that span from Florida to all parts of the globe he has truly curated his sound and much like his production, his DJ sets and mixes are sure to deliver deep soulful vibes with funky progression and smooth, intricate blends. A crowd pleaser every time.
