Picnic in the Park

at the magic pond

A careless word is all she heard, now she’s bitter
My heart said, “love,” but nothing good could come out of my mouth. 
I knew what not to say, but said it anyway.
So nothing changed, it stayed the same, and we all walked away.
The world, it has gone mad, it has grown bitter.
The highs, the lows, the wins, the shows. The truth? It knows, but still,
We thought we were on track, but it kept turning back,
It wasn’t for a lack of feeding souls.

And nobody warned us just how much the bitter would linger. 
We kept believing that right’s gonna win - just wait.
But nothing prepared us to live in a world that runs on hate.

The opposite of sweet, they say, is bitter.
But sometimes sweet is bitter too, it seems prepared.
I say the words, but yet, my heart, it must forget
So nothing changed, it stayed the same, and yes, I’m scared.
I see myself through eyes that have gone bitter. 
Don’t understand, don’t have a plan, don’t see a way around. 
So every time we try, we lose another eye, 
Instead of finding strength, we still lose ground.
