This has a lovely melancholy feel and chord progression. I like the drone feel to the vocals - feels very sleepy and relaxed.

It is not about the famous astronomer, mathematician and philosopher who lived in the ancient city of Alexandria. Ipatia is one of the fictional cities in a work by Italo Calvino (‘The Invisible Cities’) published in 1972 (and translated into English in 1974). 
I composed this song in 1997 and recorded it (with Elisabetta) almost immediately (that's when I bought a Korg D8). Now I have simply remixed it after separating the tracks and improving the volume of the vocals and the equalisation of the classic guitar (it is a Yamaha CG 110CE pre-amplified, and the effects were adjusted then with the Korg). The arrangement is very sparse, the sound quality not optimal.

It is the second act of an uncoiling Shakespearean tragedy with the return of all the bad actors; the corrupt courtiers, the feckless sons and whorish handmaids, the ambitious assassins, the smug black robed judges and boot licking lawyers, the drooling oligarchs, the sycophant politicians and slimy religious zealots, all eager to have their way with the women and the daughters who cannot appeal to justice because justice is vanquished. No checks, no balance. 

The final act portends banishment and deportation, violence and failed foreign alliances, right wing retribution, final solutions and the mad king’s revenge. It is all tear stained and blood drenched in irony as the authors and audience of this particular tragedy are the American people themselves.

This song began its life all the way over in on the other side of the pond, where our frequent collaborator, Artur wrote it on his electric guitar. Being a fan of surf music, he composed this awesome piece with The Eclectic Collective in mind. He shared it with the group through Tez, who was first to respond to Artur's guitar with his own, creating a psychedelic base of sound for the rest of us to add to. 
  Ken was up next, laying down his always exciting drums and percussion. Josh, of course, followed straight behind him, now that he had a beat to play to. JJ came soon after, laying in his ethereal organ and dancing electric piano. Last, but not least, Stephen laid in a really trippy acoustic arpeggio based acoustic guitar part to kick it to the next level.
  Of course, every great song needs a great producer. But before we even started the song beyond what Artur and Tez laid down at the beginning, Mark deftly separated Artur's basic beat from the music. Amazing what technology can do these days! For rest of the production, we tapped the very talented Tez to do the honors, which he did perfectly.
  This song marks about half a dozen we've done with Artur. We're all big fans of his unique surf rock sound, and jump at the chance to collaborate with him. If you like what we've done here, you should check out his page, as it's loaded with gems in the same strain. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.
