A World A Reggae w/ Shepdog: Nice Up Records Takeover 12.05.2019

Livity’s obsession with reggae music began when he moved to Dunedin to begin a Fine Arts degree. He started attending reggae dancehall nights at Bath Street, saying ‘I was that annoying kid asking the DJs for track names’.

Soon after this his vinyl addiction began. He was invited by General Dread from Renegade Sound System to present a show on Radio One. Not long after he started playing at Bath Street’s weekly reggae nights.

In 2006 Livity supported Luciano and met Messenjah from Reality Chant Productions backstage, the day before moving back to Christchurch. This lead to joining Messenjah and Nazarite on the Dubwize show on a regular basis and doing gigs as a crew. He has now been running the show solo for 6 years.

He is a regular fixture on Bass Factory and Chief Remedy Sound Systems, has supported many internationals and played countless festivals and local gigs.

Livity loves all reggae from militant Rasta roots to the slackest dancehall.

He says, 'I wanted to create a mix that reflects the diversity of reggae music that I love. I find mixtapes hard as there are so many songs I want to squeeze in, so I used tunes that I've played in recent DJ sets and tried to create something with flow while ripping through some different styles. Respect to all crew nationwide pushing the sound in their own ways, I hope you enjoy the mix'.

This track was started in on my birthday in May 2020 during shelter in place. Inspiration came from trying to find a place that didn't feel so lonely and closed in, like a lot of our lives have become. I wanted to take myself and future listeners away from the problems we're facing and into space. The song has unexpected twists and the chorus part has an optimistic, uplifting vibe.

It has been 10 years since Fort Knox Five released their first singles, and this past decade has proven very fruitful for the funky foursome. 2003 saw the launch of both Fort Knox Five and their seminal Fort Knox Recordings imprint. To celebrate this milestone, Fort Knox Five have selected 15 of their favorite original tracks from the entire decade.

Fort Knox Five has had the pleasure of collaborating with some incredible vocalists who are well represented on this collection. Mustafa Akbar of Thunderball and Nappy Riddem is featured on several tracks, as are Rootz and Zeebo of See-I and Thievery Corporation. The Godfather of Electro Funk himself, Afrika Bambaataa is featured on two tracks. Asheru, best known for his Boondocks theme song is on the opening track. Thievery Corporation’s dancehall voice, Sleepy Wonder as well as DC’s own DIY legend Ian Svenonius are both featured. The list continues with former US3 front-man and prolific artist Akil Dasan and the Zulu Nation’s King Kamonzi. Rounding out the list of featured vocalists is Beta-G, on loan from the US Department of Bhangra.

This body of music not only spans 10 years of Fort Knox Five in the studio, but also live performances and dj appearances worldwide. This music has been performed and played for countless thousands of fans around the globe. These tunes have also been heard in such great movies as The Cove (2010 Academy Award Winner), Stand Up Guys and You Again as well as TV shows like The Fringe. No stranger to the wide world of video games, Fort Knox Five songs have appeared on Need For Speed: Shift, Skate It, NBA Live 10, Test Drive Unlimited 2, Dirt 3, Sims and others.

10 Years of Fort Knox Five shows the music diversity of the group with one foot firmly planted in funk. Reggae and dub can be heard clearly alongside hip-hop. The group is not afraid to break boundaries and delve into rock, swing and even bhangra in their musical explorations. This collection of music represents the last decade of Fort Knox Five’s musical growth and development. 


Killa Soundboy ft Sleepy Wonder & Zeebo

It&rsquo;s always a pleasure to present another release from our funky brother from down under: Pecoe &ndash; who&rsquo;s back with his 5th EP drop and 2nd EP this year on BBP. This time around we are in for some serious funky business as Pecoe takes us on a journey to celebrate everything about the funk on 5 epic originals that can best be described as: Funk Anthems.
If this wasn&rsquo;t enough he&rsquo;s brought along some of the best producers in the funky breaks scene to work on remixes.
