Heterotopia I - Ensemble Intercontemporain

Program Note June 2021 (Cursus Concert):

In a post-apocalyptic era where humanity no longer exists, Iko, a three-dimensional audio speaker, is lonely and wishes to interact with a human being. It uses a part of its memory to recreate the image of his friend, the trumpet player, in order to communicate and ultimately play together. However, things take a wrong turn. Despite the image of the trumpet player being a part of his memory, the hologram of the musician isn’t merely a visual and a sonic reconstruction : his spirit finds a temporary virtual body.
QU is an on-going project based on an imaginary story. The title is inspired by the Japanese phrase kyūyū no chi - familiar haunts, or simply kyūyū - an old friend.  	
For this representation, we chose to work on the first few moments of the story : Introduction (lonely Iko), creation of the hologram and, consciousness of the hologram. 
The full-length project is planned to include clear mixed-music moments.

Repercussion for violin and percussion by Hana Ajiashvili

The piece was commissioned by the Meitar Ensemble and with the support the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. The premiere was at the CEME festival on December 23. 2023.

Limited Narrative Template

Mats Erlandsson and Maria W Horn meet as Dufwa in heavy synthesis wielding insect field recordings sourced from the catalonian countryside.  Dufwa’s debut release, Fältinspelningar från Terres de l’Ebre (Field recordings from Terres de I’Ebre), defies the standard conception one might have about field recording music. By means of intricate digital processing, Dufwa scrapes the natural source-bonding from their collected insectoid recording and sonically stretches them on a continuum between drone, noise and generative music.
