Chook is back after a 4 year sabbatical from drum 'n' bass. Those who were around to witness his output during the mid to late 2000's know just how cutting-edge his sound was and still is today. Chook has been busy producing his live band Monophona, who could be stylistically described as a modern day Portishead fused with techno and trip hop beats as well as live instrumentation and morphed out bass lines. 

"The Thread" kicks off with epic pads and features the haunting and spine tingling vocal talents of Monophona's Caludine Muno. Contorted fx layers weave their way in and out of this pristine vox line in complimentary fashion, impactfully adding depth and intensity during the intro. Massive drums thrash away atop of a highly modulated and turbulently grooving bass line at the drop. Subtle stab and midrange elements contribute progression and harmoniously glorify this incredibly catchy groove until the breakdown arrives, where filtered mids accompany the vocal line leading up to the second drop. As expected, Chook has delivered an absolute monster of a comeback tune… one that gets stuck in your head and one that you will surely be reaching for in months and years to come.

We've got a bumper Premiere today as we present the first Soundcloud clips of the brand new EP from Brakken for Tech Itch Recordings! Currently shrouded in mystery all we know about Brakken so far is that he is a old warrior of the scene operating under a new identity; doubtless time will reveal the artist's former aliases, but for now all we have is the beats.

Said beats are impressive indeed and fans of the dark-edged techstep sound will definitely find plenty to enjoy here; from the deep, rolling reese bass of 'Shadow Art' through the industrial-tinged halftime of 'In My Room', out into the 90s style 'headz-y vibes of 'Shaper Scratch' and finishing up with moody stepper 'Let Go', this is clearly the work of an artist with deep roots in the scene and plenty of ideas to explore. Sick stuff!

Microfunk Music has released a new EP called "Puzzles". The release contains four tracks by Microfunk artists that will soon be releasing their solo records on the label.

The compilation provides a glimpse into the future sound of the Microfunk label. You'll find vintage IDM melodies from Microfunk Crew in the track "Bikini Bottom", and futuristic glitches in the ambient epos "Sparkling Lake" by Dissident. "Minimal Love" by Subwave stands out with its meditative vibe that's somehow still at home on the dancefloor, and Nuage opens up new horizons for the evolution of his and the label’s sound with his 160-bpm track "Parallel".

"Puzzles EP" is out now digitally on Bandcamp and will be available in other shops / streaming services on the 1st November. A limited edition of tote bags and prints with the artwork are available via Bandcamp.

Subwave - Minimal Love

Back with new material for Symmetry, Jack Boston’s latest offering showcases his musical and production talents. The two contrasting tracks demonstrate his diversity as one of the scenes top emerging artists. His background as a guitarist is a thread that consistently runs through his production, which adds a live and natural feel to much of his work. 

As a trained sound engineer working at a renowned studio, his experience from recording an eclectic array of bands adds a different dimension to his approach when making Drum n Bass. Working towards his debut album, this release is the first taste of things to come.

“The Place” - Teaming up once again with the soulful Vanity Jay, this track takes you on a journey of moods. From pensive and smooth to edgy and deep this track holds you on the edge of your seat as you travel through the soundscape. Distilling these elements down into the DJ Edit (included in the digital release) delivers a more club friendly version.

“Always There” - Known for his love of Amen breaks, Madcap brings his rolling jungle style to the mix on this energetic B side. Uplifting horns, retro guitars and bluesy vocals keep this fast paced record moving until the last bar.
