After I finished recording this episode, I realized I'd played two records featuring Jorge Santana - one by his group Malo, and another with him as a guest with the Fania All-Stars. I looked him up and realized he had sadly passed away last spring. Rest in Power Jorge Santana! I hope everyone enjoys his guitar work on these tunes as well as the other tracks featured here.

IMYRMIND debuts on Tartelet with a four-tracker ranging from banging MPC techno to contagious Latin house and laidback jazzy wonk.

After finishing a degree in architecture and relocating to Berlin earlier this year, IMYRMIND stepped up his game with the release of his solo debut on Astro & Graef’s Money $ex imprint. This November will see the release of the beat-smiths second solo venture on Tartelet Records.

The opening track ‘Tong Po’ is IMYRMIND’s take on techno, inspired by the villain from Jean Claude Van Damme’s 1989 cult classic Kickboxer. A heavy pitched kick drum, fuzzy melodies with generous use of tape delay and a badass bass line dropping around the three-minute mark makes this a peak time candidate.
‘Wanja 9000’ slows down the pace. Dusty Jazz samples and wonky beats with sloppy turntable cuts add a nice live feel to the track. 

On the b-side ‘Upturn’ sets the mood with classic salsa percussion infused with an epic brass and piano hook that could very well stem from the infamous Palmieri brothers or one of their contemporaries. Embrace your inner Latino and follow your hips.
The last track of the record ‘Number Seven’ completes the circle with venturous drum programming, layered melodies and plenty of “early morning ambiance”. 

IMYRMIND is scheduled for a three-week Australia, NZ and Asia tour in November alongside long-time collaborator Glenn Astro.

C'était début juillet, il a maintenant presque un mois, la semaine sainte du Worldwide Festival de Gilles Peterson sonnait l'heure du rendez-vous annuel dont il nous est impossible d'en rater une miette. Cette édition 2016 fut une fois de plus un cru exceptionnel. Entre live, DJ sets, ambiance, espaces, rencontres, pas une seule fausse note. Chaque année on s'y prépare et pourtant, chaque année on se reprend une grosse claque musicale. Une symbiose parfaite entre espace, temps et couleurs musicales à laquelle nous avons une fois de plus apporté notre pierre à l'édifice.

Du mardi au vendredi nous avons installé le studio du Mellotron sur la plage de La Ola pour y recevoir producteurs, DJs, amis et nouvelles rencontres. De 11h00 à 14h00 se sont succédés dans le désordre DJ Oil, Nikitch, Around The World, Clémentine, Saint-James, Jim Irie, Majestic Mood, Les Oreilles de P'ears, Frederic Beneix, Le Mellotron DJs, et bien  sûr le papa du festival Gilles Peterson et son acolyte Lefto pour finir la semaine en beauté.

Et du coup, pour ceux et celles qui en auraient raté une miette ou veulent se refaire une piqure de Worldwide Festival, on vous balance ici même les recordings de ces sessions. On tient à s'excuser pour les deux podcasts manquants de Da Vince et Supagroovalistic qui viendront rejouer le match quand bon leur semble au 6 rue beaurepaire.

Following 2016’s compilation success with all proceeds sent to Syria’s White Helmets, the 2019 Christmas release has attracted an even broader spectrum of sound from nine of the label’s most honorable artists.  

Featuring Tartelet Records’ signature eclectic mix of genres, Christmas is saved with unreleased works by Wayne Snow and digitalluc, jitwam, Space Ghost, Glenn Astro, Kasper Marott, Verner, N.O.T.E, and label head Dirk 81. Each track has been handpicked by the artist themselves to represent their unique style in support of a bold charitable cause.  

This year, the Natural Resources Defense Counsel (NRDC) has been selected as the recipient of all proceeds. As one of the world’s most prominent environmental protection organizations, it strives to protect nature in ways that advance the long-term welfare of present and future generations. Tartelet Records is proud to support this important mission with its exclusive end-of-year release.
