"Damian Valles might be the best dark ambient artist that hovers just outside the dark ambient scene. He’s put records out on all your favorite labels (Hibernate, Experimedia, Under The Spire, BLWBCK, Audio Gourmet...) and now he’s got Strand, his second release for the french label VoxxoV Records, but it could just as easily have been put out by Hospital Productions if it was only a little bit synthier & angrier.

Strand is a work of brilliance, blurring the boundaries between exceptionally bleak drone and haunted minimal industrial, with mind-numbing static electricity buzzing behind your eyes, motorik rhythms made from detritus tumbling around in empty oil drums, and deep low end generator thrum vibrating under the sound of hanging scythes clanking like windchimes, these are the sparse & ominous sounds of the heavy woes carried through life, the ones nobody sees but everybody endures, when you catch a glimpse of Death in your reflection, Valles’ music helps you dismiss it and just focus on the insanity at hand."

Damian Valles - Shift Work

This 1973 piece by Eliane Radigue stands out on surface level as being very unlike her work before or after this period. The sources are essentially acoustic and a far cry from the technology she most often sought: with a stethoscope and a microphone, she recorded the heartbeats of her son, her pregnant daughter, and the rhythms of her yet to be born grandchild.It was during this time that Radigue was truly immersing herself in the ARP synth, and shortly prior to her brief sabbatical from music to further hone her interest in and devotion to Tibetan Buddhism. Though seemingly in contrast with her penchant for waveforms, the resulting pulses stir at a pace all too familiar from her electronic work. As with her ARP creations, her role here is to never interfere, merely to seek out the waves and allow them to do as they wish.

✭ ✭ ✭ ABOUT 'THE SHAPES OF COLLAPSES' ✭ ✭ ✭

The Shapes of Collapses is Paskine’s sophomore album. His debut album Nimod was released in 2014 by VoxxoV Records. His new album is composed of ten tracks (and two bonus tracks) mirroring the different shapes of collapses and explosions. 
It is a die-hard work striving to reach sound abstraction as close as possible, and it sometimes achieves this goal. As a result, the melodies, the rhythmics, and the other repetitive elements constantly evolve until they collapse and drown in their own sonorous and abrasive streams. It only comes to mutation and the evolution of sounds. 
Consequently, this album can be equated with a repetition of cycles freely inspired by natural disasters such as the melting of ice caps, volcanic eruptions, meteorological anomalies and so on. The sound elements are all exclusively electronic. The Shapes of Collapses is the result of several years of work and research. The latter were accomplished especially thanks to the gmem CNCM in Marseilles, who offered their invaluable help during a research residency in 2015 and 2016.

The Shapes of Collapses est le second album de Paskine. Il fait suite à son album Nimrod édité en 2014 par VoxxoV Records. Cette collection de dix pièces sonores (plus deux titres bonus) est construite autour de l’idée de composer les formes d’écroulements, de déflagrations. 
C’est un travail jusqu’au-boutiste cherchant à s’approcher au plus près de l’abstraction sonore, pour parfois l’atteindre. Ainsi, les mélodies, rythmiques et autres éléments répétitifs évoluent constamment jusqu’à s’écrouler et se noyer dans leurs propres torrents sonores abrasifs. Tout n’est ici question que de mutation et d'évolution de la matière. 
En cela, l’album peut-être considéré comme une répétition de cycles s’inspirant librement de réactions naturelles radicales, fonte des glaces, éruptions volcaniques, événements météorologiques etc. 
Tous les éléments sonores sont ici purement électroniques. 
Cet album est le fruit d'une année de travail et de recherche, réalisé notamment grâce à l'aide précieuse du gmem CNCM Marseille, lors d’une résidence de recherche en 2015 et 2016.
