An On Bast of Poland, recently likened to such a name as Stephan Bodzin, and a participant in the Red Bull Music Academy in Melbourne releases her second ep on La Folia Recordings.

A release that started with the single original electronic track has blossomed into a well rounded mixed genre, four track EP. Notable producer Douglas Greed volunteered to remix An’s original track, creating a colorful sonic painting filled with found sounds that mingle perfectly with the original melodies. Chris Ward, recently featured on the ‘Together Festival’ CD, and label head Inanna have taken the ‘it’ genre of the moment, Dubstep, and re-created An‘s audio brilliance adding an original bassline that rattles.

I wish women could see how we're often pitted against each other, by society, by patriarchy, even by one another. Are we sometimes our own worst enemies? Lets celebrate our differences and our true selves, lets celebrate each other.

For my exhibition project at the Gandhara-art Space, I have combined music with my perspective as a girl, growing up and living in the cultural and societal norms of Pakistan.

Joris Voorn takes inspiration from Greek mythology on glorious new track ‘Antigone’

Fresh from releasing his stunning dedication to his second son, ‘Ryo’, Joris Voorn is back already with another two sumptuous tracks for the summer festival season. Despite being inspired by the Greek tragedy of the same name, in which the protagonist kills herself after being sentenced to being buried alive for defying the king’s order’s about grieving for the death of her brother, ‘Antigone’ is an uplifting, positive piece of work. 

Melody abounds from the very start, with the lush chord progression that forms the backbone of the track playing out through muted synths. Ethereal pads drift over the track as punchy kicks and on-beat tambourines create a propulsive feel. As the chords filter up, a cute, understated lead riff emerges played by a heavenly synth. The warm bass notes swell while another fizzing motif blasts into play, bringing with it tinges of trance euphoria. The percussion picks up the energy while vocal cuts add more colour. A sweet breakdown builds just the right amount of tension without being overblown, sending the track into the stratosphere. Graceful, elegant stuff.

‘The real story behind ‘Antigone’ is that it was made when I was on the plane with a serious hangover. The name was inspired by a billboard I saw on the way to the airport while leaving Greece after a gig’ says Joris.  

B-side ‘Haemon’ (the name of Antigone’s fiancée) once again sees Voorn explore his ambient, chillout desires as he did with ‘Noa’ on his last release. Delicate arpeggios dance atop widescreen, phasing pads that play an almost orchestral, classical arrangement. Soft bass tones add weight to this beautiful, contemplative track.

Juno - "It's sonic urban poetry o'clock here with the latest release from deep 'n' dubby producer Searcher Of Hearts. It's all very shady as to the identity of SOH, but it appears that they want the music to speak for itself. What we get are four tracks of crackly audio texture layered over post-dubstep/future garage beats. "Enamour" features scattered rhythms and soothing synths, "Halcyon" is pure liquid garage and "Keepsake" is all about fuzzed-out synth loops and slo-mo RnB vibes."
