PREMIERE: noRecall - Esoteric [Erbium Records]

Born in Bristol, @solla-sound grew up immersed in diverse musical influences. Driven by a passion for sound exploration, he ventured into the world of synthesis and modular synthesizers, and has now progressed to programming VST plugins for his professional endeavours. With a vinyl release under his original alias SØL on the Karbanik Sound label, as well as several collaborative records with Harrta as Sabasonik, his work has appeared on labels such as Earth & Stone, Outhouse Sounds, and 786 Recordings. After moving to Montreal (Canada) and finding inspiration in the city's dynamic underground music scene, he continues to evolve his sound now under the ‘solla’ alias as well as with the new modular-orientated outfit Infrasignal, all whilst retaining the distinctive influences from his Bristol roots.

After his debut EP on Dead Trax last year, which gained support from the likes of Breaka, DJ ADHD or dameeeela, we’re gassed to have him back on the label with his distinctive bass sounds. “destructive” is out now on streaming platforms, and available for download when you pre-order “The Grooveyard: Volume 2”, coming April 23rd on cassette tape and digital formats.

In Ankit's words:

"Liminal Rift emerged at a moment when I needed to break through musically, emotionally, and spiritually. The Lions Gate Portal in 2024 provided that initial jolt, not in a cosmic woo-woo way, but as a symbolic reminder: there are moments when the universe feels cracked open. I used that as the spark.

The first track, 'Lions Gate Portal', is assertive and angular. It mirrors the feeling of standing at a cosmic threshold, your nervous system tuned to celestial rhythm, your breath syncing to the gravitational hum of something larger than yourself. It’s the sonic equivalent of stepping into an unknown space.

Then comes 'Lysergic Effect'. It’s liquid and elastic, like a thought slipping through consciousness. It’s immersive, slippery, and difficult to grasp. Like a rapidly unfolding lucid dream. It reflects my fascination with perception, altered states, and the architecture of the mind.

Together, the tracks form a sonic diptych. An outward expansion followed by deep inner fragmentation.

Liminal Rift is about the in-between spaces. It’s where the most profound shifts happen, and sound becomes a vessel for transformation.

The EP isn’t just something to listen to; it’s something to traverse."

About the Artist:
Spiralynk is the brainchild of Ankit Malik, an interdisciplinary artist leveraging a multimodal approach to explore the intricate relationship between order and chaos. His creative inquiry spans algorithmic composition, brain-controlled interfaces, immersive audio, procedural audio, and transmission art. He is currently experimenting with machine learning and neural network architectures for real-time audio synthesis and sound manipulation. His journey has taken him across the globe, delivering live electronic music performances in the UK, Europe, and India, with notable appearances at the Magnetic Fields Festival, Algorave India and Reset Networks. Additionally, his compositions have set the stage in theatre productions from Cambridge to Prague and Kolkata.

As a technical sound designer, creative technologist, and audio engineer, he is currently leveraging his expertise in consulting within the automotive industry. He focuses on the cutting-edge development and implementation of Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems (AVAS) and Sonic Interaction Design (SID) strategies, a key contribution to enhancing automotive safety and sound technology.

Beyond his individual pursuits, he co-founded Bonafide Seven, a collective and media production house dedicated to amplifying the voices of artists and creators. Their work has gained acclaim in top publications like Rolling Stone India, The Wild City, and Rock Street Journal. In a notable collaboration with Rolling Stone India in November 2021, they facilitated an exclusive interview and fundraiser with Michael League, the bandleader for Snarky Puppy and Bokante, contributing to COVID-19 relief efforts in India.
