JD Zazie and Peter Cusack both play field recordings in ‘live’ performances and music. We are interested that the recordings remain in their original form without too much change. When recognisable they tell their own stories and narratives but, in combinations and juxtapositions, they can be very playful and surprising. By their nature field recordings have much spatiality and depth. They are very effective at creating vivid images in a listeners’ imagination. This comes out very strongly in the duo’s performance and is part of their interested in choosing recordings played. They wish to give the impression of spaces between music, storytelling and sonic film making.

Jena Jang is a South Korean audiovisual artist, experimental musician, DIY instrument builder, and performance-based researcher based in Prague, Czechia. Their multidisciplinary practice centres on trauma healing through the intensity of live performance, focusing on the circulation of energy between artist and audience, building affective connections with non-human beings, and musically interpreting organic structures found in nature.

Incubate was the annual celebration of cutting-edge culture in Tilburg, the Netherlands. It is a festival exhibiting a diverse view on indie culture as a whole, including music, contemporary dance, film and visual arts. It brought more than 200 cutting edge artists in an intimate context to an international audience. Black metal next to free jazz. Refreshing art next to inspiring debate. All we have left are some recordings :-)
