BLACK OPPS makes his debut on IN:DEEP MUSIC with his latest EP entitled RETURN OF THE SAMURAI. Hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil, BLACK OPPS’ decade and a half of immersion within the Drum & Bass scene as a DJ and half decade of work within its intricacies as a producer have seen him pursuing his sound in lockstep with the genre’s own progression from his earliest performances to his releases on labels including Addictive Behavior, Soulvent, and Booey Audio. Finding a niche for his productions within the genre’s darker and more minimal side, BLACK OPPS now joins the like minded IN:DEEP MUSIC for a four track EP full of storied tales built upon these same sorts of sonic sequences.

The EP is opened by its title track, which intersperses pulsations of shakuhachi flute and classic film samples atop a gently undulating bassline that hones itself evermore towards a more ferocious character. SHADOWS floats out as the EPs second track to follow, abounding in the echoes left by its predecessor’s ferocity amongst a set of swirling saw wave synths. Emerging from SHADOWS lies the ominous atmosphere of THE PATH, which builds with a cacophony of airy bell tones before parting their misty milieu to reveal the solitary course of the track’s singularly powerful bassline. The EP is then finished with CEREMONY, within which is delivered a sharply orchestrated sequence of percussion wrapt with a torsion wrought low end that lashes out in response to the former’s deft guidance.

RETURN OF THE SAMURAI sees BLACK OPPS’ first release on IN:DEEP MUSIC arrive marked by the veterancy of it’s producer’s long history as a sonic warrior. Composed of four tracks that cleave tightly to exacting principles of depth in minimal composition, BLACK OPPS’ works find a welcome home on IN:DEEP MUSIC in which producer, label, and composition alike are all guided by a singular commitment to sonic darkness.

Forged out of a neverending appreciation of Drum and Bass Music, longterm Drum and Bass DJ and Producer Phlage has dedicated his time and effort to the attempt of supporting and nurturing a new spectrum of upcoming artists.

Multi-genre DJ and newbie jungle producer (under alias Lw)

Lubi J is all about the selections, whether it’s old skool or modern, atmospheric, soulful or dark and moody, she loves strong tunes that create impact in the dance.

Based in Cardiff, she started off mostly playing soulful/liquid jungle dnb back in 2000, heavily influenced by Fabio’s liquid funk album and artists like Calibre, Carlito and Addiction, Bukem and the EZ Rollers. 

Despite mostly playing liquid in the early days her love for jungle and the darker styles was always there and she would still pull out tracks from labels like Ram, Liftin Spirits, Metalheadz, V Recordings, Full Cycle and Renegade Hardware. 

In the latter part of the 00s she discovered her love for disco, funk and soul after being educated by her friend and artist Hoxe on the history of breakbeats in jungle. This led to a handful of local residencies playing funk & disco over the course of the next few years. 

She then returned more prominently to playing jungle dnb around 2012 when Catapult Records (legendary record store in Cardiff) started putting on events in the unique Vaults venue. 

She’s held residencies and played at a number of different nights in Cardiff and over the bridge in the last 20 years, supporting a raft of the finest in the scene, including; Fabio, Bukem, Calibre, Storm, Digital, Spirit, Total Science, Mampi Swift, Djinn, Roni Size, Break, Alley Cat, Randall, Klute and Doc Scott.

After feeling the void of modern jungle and heavier dnb in the capital city, the year 2022 brought the start of putting on her own events with fellow DJ, Electra. 
Headspace was born.

In 2024 Lubi J started playing disco regularly again, expanding her passion for these uplifting sounds and exploring more of the soulful/disco house spectrum, often alongside her ‘disco wife’, Sister Sesh  at one of their now legend b2bs, often seen at Cardiff’s Shake The Horse.

In addition to this, Lubi J has been quietly exploring producing jungle dnb and had her first release on Exstatic Records - ‘One and all’ in January 2024, under a new producer alias ‘Lw’ (pronounced Lou - a version of the Welsh word for ‘oath’).
