What does the future of peace and quiet look like? Is it possible for someone to find serenity in a world where population mushrooms and buildings continuously jockey for the best possible view? With Kael Smith’s (Mombi, Khale) Mute Forest this dichotomy is at the epicenter of his 'Infinity Pools EP' due April 7th via Lost Tribe Sound.

To coincide with visuals courtesy of Gregory Euclide (Bon Iver, Erased Tapes), Smith’s debut EP fuses acoustic sounds, mangled electronics and provocative lyrics across four meditative yet mesmerizing tracks.

Serving as a companion piece to his expansive and sonorous LP, 'Deforestation', due later this year, Smith’s 'Infinity Pools EP' was actually written as a reaction to that material but will be released first.“ 'Deforestation' will in a sense be a prequel to the EP,” explains Smith. “And for listeners who follow along, should provide an interesting reverse narrative,” he concludes.

“Crypt,” the EP’s opener, contains oscillating vinyl-sampled rhythms, chiming electric guitar and gently struck nylon guitar. Following that is the sparce and haunting “Volcanoes Flowing,” which traces a melancholy beat and slow, lovely piano crescendos to its heartbreaking conclusion.

Darker in tone, title track "Infinity Pools" has a commanding presence using ominous electronics and damaged samples of Le Creuset pots being struck. Heavily processed and featuring vocals from Smith’s longtime girlfriend Kelly O’Brien, the track unfurls into a hypnotic groove over the chilling words “You’ll feel like an ember trilling/out in space.”

Washing over the listener to conclude the EP, “Eat the Skin” originally started as an A Winged Victory for the Sullen remix of a song off of their recent LP, 'Atomos'. As the track progressed though, all of the layers performed by AWVFTS were eventually stripped leaving only acoustic guitar and Smith’s voice. “I like to pretend we wrote that song together, hopefully someday they will hear it” desires Smith. He uses the big, cavernous sound of acoustic guitar as base for unhurried, dulcet vocals and airy electronics. “I’ve always loved the big, acoustic sound of Seafood’s “Desert Stretched Before the Sun”“ explains Smith. “I really tried to emulate that deep resonate tone where the acoustic sounds like a tidal wave.”

Lisa/Liza is the lo-fi, psych-folk recording project of Maine-based guitarist, singer and songwriter Liza Victoria. Deserts of Youth is her debut LP, after numerous limited edition cassette and CDr releases. Deserts of Youth is an intimate collection of seven original songs, recorded at home by Victoria, using just her voice and her acoustic guitar.

Liza explains:
"Deserts of Youth is an album about the parts of our past that remain within us, and visiting these landscapes with recognition of ourselves instead of a meditation on what has been lost, or is no longer a resource or a path we can use. It is about meeting the past and facing it with a sense of ownership instead of abandon; the idea that one can see a desert as a place of desolation or a place of needed reflection, full of life, and strength."

Steeped in drum machines, synthesizers, loops, samples and beats along with James Raftery’s voice, his new album EVERYTHING was born on a mountaintop hideaway after a death, a move, a breakup, and a recovery. James Raftery was known for 15 years as Rat Wakes Red. After 4 albums and opening for artists like Bob Mould and Hayden, he decamped from New York City to the upstate countryside. A new solitude and hard-won clarity led him to retreat to his home studio where he began work on EVERYTHING, an album that marks a new beginning and a brand new sound for an artist that had relied heavily on the acoustic. EVERYTHING’s music was made entirely on computer and synthesizer; the only acoustic instrument is James’ voice. Its songs are exuberant, passionate, driven, reflective and hopeful. James wrote, performed, recorded, mixed and produced while Scott Hull mastered for digital and vinyl at Masterdisk. EVERYTHING is for anyone who loves synths and drum machines and infectious choruses. Influences include Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Giorgio Moroder, John Carpenter, Lorde, Wild Nothing, Egyptian Lover, Sufjan Stevens, School of Seven Bells. EVERYTHING will be available March 24th on vinyl, CD, and digital.

The songs on Runaway Symphony’s sophomore release, American Blood, unfold like chapters in a novel, weaving an orchestral folk odyssey through rich harmonies, dynamic instrumentation, and vivid story-telling. 

The album opens with a bass and drum-driven anthem about venturing into the unknown, which serves as an apt introduction from the North Idaho natives who wrote and recorded the entire LP from cities scattered across the continental United States. But make no mistake; the songs are far from autobiographical. Tackling subject matter from postmodernism and the American dream to the Incarnation of God and the personal accounts of peers, American Blood tells a story that both challenges and inspires, and masterfully establishes Runaway Symphony as a leading voice in folk songwriting. 

Their self-produced 2013 debut album, Running South, was met with unforeseen and widespread acceptance, and garnered an immediately devoted fan-base. The band released an EP, Titans, in the summer of 2015 before beginning work on American Blood.

Runaway Symphony has shared the stage with Colbie Caillat, Eric Hutchinson, Sally Ford, Joe Pug, and is featured in Warner Bros’ 2017 feature-film, "Bastards", starring Owen Wilson, Ed Helms, and Glenn Close.

 Abi Wade is a musician based in Brighton, UK. A Musical collaboration between limbs, strings and vocal chords. Her music is seemingly and seamlessly sewn together, each beat, melody and bass line put exactly in its place, to create songs that pull the heart strings and a performance that will beguile and intrigue.

So far she has toured the UK & Europe with Patrick Wolf, played festivals such as End of The Road, The Great Escape and Wilderness, sold out her debut EP, released music on the label set up by Esben & The Witch’s Daniel Copeman, with whom she also records with and played shows with the likes of CocoRosie, Dan Mangan, Other Lives & Deptford Goth. Her music has also been used on MTV series ‘Awkward’ and Cinemax series ‘Banshee’.
