Premiere: Adam X - On The Prowl [BITE019]

Trauma Collective returns to shock to your system on their fifth release, which comes courtesy of Spain’s Rafael M. Espinosa aka Geistform. The Barcelona-based artist, also known for his exploits under the Univac alias, has crafted a singular style that exists at the interzone of IDM, digital noise and electro and having earned him releases on Pi Electronics, Femur and Hands Productions in recent years.

Espinosa executes five programs in sonic warfare on the Antena EP, all sounding akin to complex bitstream amplification. A multi-level barrage of frequencies play offense on opening cut “Proxima B”, which sets the theme for more widescreen pulsations that gash the senses, as heard on the syntax error of “Note Repeat” and building up to a climax on the monochromatic soundstage of “Norc” - a jagged and angular exploration in bass artefacts and static redux. Exclusive to this digital release is fifth track “Impedancia”, once again rendered in dissonant hi-res sounds and underpinned by glitched and clipped microrhythms.

Since unleashing the austere techno of Birmingham legend Mick Harris (as Monrella) and hometown hero Kwartz on unsuspecting ears, the Madrid-based collective has now ventured into more experimental spheres, as heard on the off-kilter mentalism of ASC’s Loop Research and the brooding atmosphere of Makunaimadama’s limited cassette release last year. Antena is the logical progression for the label’s next chapter, where it continues to push the threshold of electronic music’s outer limits.

The third compilation (of four instalments) in the Various Artists catalogue of Pi Electronics is hitting physical and digital stores around the globe on the 10th of February 2023. 

The concept of releasing artists, who performed at π parties (2014-2019) along with musicians who stood close to the label before and during its activity, gathers 18 tracks to the Limitation Compilation. 

Music by New York City industrial legend Adam X, Swedish master mind producer Peder Mannerfelt  and Irish Techno figure, Eomac (also one half of Lakker) finally takes its place on the label catalogue, along with tracks by the electro side of Italian born producer, Alessandro Adriani and the sound-aesthetic of UK hailing musicians, Slave to Society (formerly AnD ) and Sam KDC. 
Berlin artists Alekzandra and Interviews appear with a synth leaning piece, and a hypnotic, broken techno contribution respectively. 
You can also meet the sound of Tel Aviv’s finest electro duo TV.OUT on this release, which also includes a rare collaboration track by Ireen Amnes and Gramrcy. 
Finally, ‘Limitation’ presents music by Greece affiliated acts of different backgrounds: from the dreamy guitars of Monochromatic Visions and the ambient/drone of Devika, to the broken beats of Zevla and Ønly, as well as the rolling techno of Thanos Hana. Not to mention the textures of noise band Phallucipher, the industrial slo mo techno of Thessaloniki’s, Archaic Intellect, and the noise-techno of label founder, 3.14. 

A crossroad of different genres and production styles is offered in the formats of Double Vinyl Sampler, Double CD and digital for this compilation, titled “Limitation”.

V/A - LIMITATION [Pi Electronics Compilation 2023] // Snippets

Simone Scardino started a new artistic stage in the middle of the pandemic in which from CONCEPTUAL, his solo musical project, he develops a very personal style based mainly on techno and a technological, futuristic sound with a great structural design. Taking into account this artistic attitude of Simone in his new sound adventure, we must also think that Duna, the label he officially opens in a few days, will be oriented towards a musical line similar to the advanced techno sound.

Duna, as its name suggests, refers to the sand formations caused by the wind. The beauty and perfection of these natural sculptures is due to various physical patterns, phenomena such as wavelength or degradation, which are perfectly applicable to the sound of a recording project like this.

Desert Flowers is Duna's first formal release. Previously Simone himself released a track on the label, however, the strong bet comes with a double LP with the collaboration of an interesting cast of producers such as Mike Parker, D-Leria, Pigreko, Stanislav Tolkachev, Danilenko, Sciahri, Retina.It, Ribé, Desroi and CONCEPTUAL himself. Although the style of each track is unique to each author, together they identify the musical line of the label with an avant-garde sound concept.

Born in Germany and currently based in Thessaloniki, Whiplash is a young upcoming artist. She’s quickly become a resident DJ at OSM Tapes Event Series and the A&R for upcoming premieres and podcasts. Ever since early childhood she’s been keen to dig into as many facets of music as possible. Her sound is a multi blended construction, heavily influenced by the early EBM and 80’s Post- Punk movement. She also likes to incorporate techno, dirty electro elements and Dark-Wave touches in her DJ sets, in order to create a rich, multidimensional soundscape.
