Colombian producer, Faunes Efe, stands behind a slew of prolific albums and EP’s released under the Filmmaker project, quickly building a cult following amongst those with an affinity for dystopian electronics steeped in an alluring, seductive darkness. From earlier self-released works such as ‘Visceral’, a 10-track full length work modestly described in Efe’s own words as the “First occult-orientated soundtrack from an experimental lost film”, to the 808-shots of ‘Nocturnal’ and later with the grainy, low-fi electro of ‘Wetwork’. Each successive release proves Efe’s capacity to execute productions of magnitude across the electronic spectrum, yielding body moving music from a small arsenal of honed hardware.

Filmmaker’s material derives from an unadulterated exploration of the sonic realms, utilising multiple formats and artistic mediums; documented through a series of original cover artworks and short films created by Efe. In the space of a year since its inception, Efe began touring as a live artist under the Filmmaker project, from his home-base in Medellin, to clubs and spaces throughout the Americas and Europe. 2019 became a defining period for Efe’s musical trajectory, with the release of the acclaimed ‘The Love Market’ LP on Berlin-based Detriti Records and later landing on esteemed UK label, Opal Tapes with his 6-track ‘Unregulated’ EP, followed by the 7-track dark wave masterclass ‘Noir Times’ EP on Valencia-based, HC Records.

 "Trauma Collective returns to shock to your system on their fifth release, 
which comes courtesy of Spain’s Rafael M. Espinosa aka Geistform. 
The Barcelona-based artist, also known for his exploits under the Univac
alias, has crafted a singular style that exists at the interzone of IDM, 
digital noise and electro and having earned him releases on Pi 
Electronics, Femur and Hands Productions in recent years. 

Espinosa executes five programs in sonic warfare on the Antena EP, all 
sounding akin to complex bitstream amplification. A multi-level barrage 
of frequencies play offense on opening cut “Proxima B”, which sets the 
theme for more widescreen pulsations that gash the senses, as heard 
on the syntax error of “Note Repeat” and building up to a climax on the 
monochromatic soundstage of “Norc” - a jagged and angular exploration
in bass artefacts and static redux. Exclusive to this digital release is fifth 
track “Impedancia”, once again rendered in dissonant hi-res sounds and
underpinned by glitched and clipped microrhythms. 

Since unleashing the austere techno of Birmingham legend Mick Harris 
(as Monrella) and hometown hero Kwartz on unsuspecting ears, the 
Madrid-based collective has now ventured into more experimental 
spheres, as heard on the off-kilter mentalism of ASC’s Loop Research 
and the brooding atmosphere of Makunaimadama’s limited cassette 
release last year. Antena is the logical progression for the label’s next 
chapter, where it continues to push the threshold of electronic music’s 
outer limits."

(PREVIEW) [TRM004] Geistform - Antena

Exiles presents Classics, an interesting proposal in which five artists each present a different perspective of what we can understand as advanced electronic music. All these artists are from Budapest, the city where the label is located, and to a greater or lesser extent, they are producers associated with this platform, as they have published their music in previous releases. 

Classics is a heterogeneous EP, with a powerful sound and elaborate textures. Alley Catss opens the release with με σφυρί, a track that combines a bright sound environment, with melancholic pads and metallic rhythmic elements, typical of experimental electronica, with a forceful kick that transports you at times to the raw landscape of industrial. The second cut, prayersarestandinginline1, by OOO, is an abstract track, with a degraded sound treatment and a strange atmosphere.

In the third track FOR. chooses to adopt a dynamic aspect with server ed_22, as unlike the rest of the tracks, its syncopated rhythm is prominent, forceful and stands out from the rest of the sound components. Oyster Farm, by Juhász Tamás, is a singular piece, with a fast cadence and different sections that seem to operate anarchically, yet together they form an perfect alliance. Nemerov closes the EP with Liebeslied, IDM with a complex architectural composition, with polyrhythms and a futuristic sound design.

Standards & Practices return with their second release this year, following the release of Krohn / Mjolsness's superb "Drummer" EP. The first proper Stave release since 2021's collaboration with Karim Maas on UVB-76, "Godless", "Saints No Drum" is a concise and definitive artistic statement from Jonathan Krohn that encompasses everything that made his previous releases so captivating, while taking his sound in exciting new directions.

"Drum 1 - 4" display a level of refinement and restraint rarely heard in modern electronic music, and there's a sustained atmosphere of brooding, simmering tension that's  simultaneously meditative and menacing. The interstitial tracks here ("Fred S", "Krohn / Schneider", "Squared Off", and the title track) add texture, depth, and nuance to a release that adds up to much more than the sum of its parts.

Actualmente vivimos en una época de sobreexplotación de la información que, en el caso de la música electrónica, afecta a la mayoría de los lanzamientos que se publican, ya que pasan totalmente desapercibidos debido a la enorme oferta existente, sin embargo, aquellos lanzamientos que se recuperan décadas después de haber sido creados o editados oficialmente, son especialmente venerados por una gran parte del público que anhela que se abran nuevos horizontes hacia las reediciones y la recuperación de material histórico.

El sello valenciano Fill-Lex Records firma un doble álbum de Andrew Lagowski, productor británico que lleva más de 40 años en activo, aunque el primer trabajo editado como Lagowski data de 1988. Posteriormente amplió su actividad artística en otros frentes y bajo otros alias como Legion, S.E.T.I., Clans of the Alphane Moon y Project Ghost, y también fue miembro de la banda de culto Nagamatzu. Los primeros trabajos de Lagowski se centraron en la música experimental e industrial, con álbumes como "Nadir" y "Die Datenschleuder" de Legion, en los que mostraba su interés por explorar fuentes de sonido y técnicas de producción poco convencionales.

A principios de los 90, Lagowski empezó a orientarse hacia un sonido más tecno, publicando una influyente serie de singles de 12" en el sello Chromium Industries. Esto ayudó a establecer a Lagowski como una figura clave en las escenas del techno y la música electrónica. Teratology (named after the study of the causes and patterns of abnormal development) is a collection of hard, driving tunes that was originally self-released on CDR in 2003. The album is a collection of dark and atmospheric prototype and original techno tracks, featuring heavy use of synthesizers, samplers and digital effects, and its bleak and haunting soundscape reflects this theme.

‘Teratology’ is notable for its use of cutting-edge electronic production techniques at the time, such as convolution sample synthesis and time stretching (bear in mind that these tracks were recorded between 1989-1992). Lagowski's use of unconventional sound sources and processing techniques helped to push the boundaries of electronic music and influenced many artists in the genre.

The album is also noteworthy for its integration of industrial and ambient music elements, which was not a common practice in techno at the time. This blending of genres and sounds helped to create a unique and innovative sonic landscape that has since become a hallmark of electronic music.

Understandably, 'Teratology' is a landmark album in the history of UK electronic music, representing a significant step forward in the evolution of techno and influencing many artists in the genre to explore new sonic territory. So it is a fitting testament that Fill-Lex Records have brought this study of warped recording methods back under the microscope, in the form of this double pressing, collecting the tunes together for the first time on vinyl.

This is a soundtrack to imaginary nightime streetscapes in a world that resembles our own.
Crumbling asphalt slick with oil and grease reflects the woozy glow of late night bodegas in acrid pink, yellow and green.
Drakkar Noir is a feceless figure who inhabits this world, an alias shamelessly lifted from a sleazy and long out-of-fashion scent, a brand name derived from a mashup of mythical pretensions and hollow advertising jargon. Part Human and part digital fiction, Drakkar Noir is, like the city itself, a shapeshifter who feeds and is fed by the collective dreams and nightmares floating above the buildings and into smoke-filled skies.
