I'm back from my summer vacation, folks! Did you miss me? I spent about a week on a beach [in Italy] doing absolutely nothing. I don't think I even listened to music much [okay, I think there was some early 2000 trance - In Search Of Sunrise]. And now it's time to buckle up and catch up to new music as the labels prepare to unleash the usual torrent of releases before the year's end. And, once again, it is the labels that I have to trust here. And so, today, I turn to the French imprint InFiné, curated by Alexandre Cazac and Yannick Matray, “to pulse with love and passion", which previously brought us Bruce Brubaker, Francesco Tristano, Vanessa Wagner, Murcof and Rone. It's a nice collective of contemporary classical crossover with electronica, and I'm always curious about what they put their stamp of approval on next. Today, it's Japanese electronic musician Hiroshi Watanabe, who records under the alias of Kaito and previously put out half a dozen releases on Kompakt in the early 2000s. The Kanji character, for his moniker, represents and captures the act of "unravelling the enigmas of the universe." And this is what he tends to explore with his music in the latest Collection - a handful of EPs and singles from the last few years compiled on this upcoming release. There are some beat-driven versions in this selection, but I seem to mostly connect with the drifting ambience of this "Summer Ocean", and I hope that you do as well!

There are some projects, albums, and tracks that I just can't wait to share with you. It is especially true for those long in the making, from my favourite artists, teased years before. Such is the case with the latest release by Fernando Corona, whose music as Murcof I have followed since his solo debut in 2002 (before Martes, Corona participated in other electronic and even prog-rock projects). In 2008, I covered The Versailles Sessions, which I revisited in a "remastered" writeup here, covering the history of this Tijuana-born electronic musician. I was also honoured to [virtually] spend some time In the studio with Murcof, where you can peak into yourself for a list and photos of modular gear. Two years ago, in 2022, there was an announcement of a new project under the name Twin Color, diving into a futurist nostalgia of retro-synthesis, Blade Runner-esque apocalyptic melancholia, and all of those delicious things that feed your sentimentality. And I've been waiting ever since. Today, I'm happy to premiere a track from the upcoming album, tauntingly entitled Twin Color (vol. I) [presumably with another volume to come], which is finally due out in November on the French InFiné imprint. The production began during the first wave of the pandemic, drifting towards something romantic, evocative, and tastefully vintage. Perhaps initially, it was experimental. Perhaps it was playful indeed. But what finally came out two years later is a collection of gorgeous cinematic music, a track of which I am happy to share with you today.

The Ginkgo Biloba, also known as the 'tree of a thousand coins', is a tree that can live for more than a thousand years. "This tree has been around for over 270 million years already, even before the dinosaurs, and will probably still be here after mankind may be gone", Rone told us. This sense of permanence echoes the very nature of this new single from 'Room with A View', which carries all of Rone's DNA. The piece is set in a marvellous world where the abundance of sonorities seems to weave around a melody equally familiar as irresistible, before flying away to a choir of heavenly voices. 
"Ginkgo Biloba is one of the first songs I composed for the album in George Sand's house in the Black Valley of Berry. I had a very bad telephone and internet signal, I was disconnected from the world by force of circumstance.” Entirely devoted to defining the contours of his future album "Room with a View", Rone took his breaks in a luxurious garden, lulled by the songs of the birds and animated by the fresh and invigorating breeze. It was during these little walks that a little melody sneaked into his head. “I rushed to my machines to immortalize this ritornello and develop it further.”  
The result is a perfect balance between harmony and anarchy. It is certainly a good frame for reflection to imagine the society of the future while keeping a smile on one's face.
