Tibia - Care (snippets)

The imprint from Turin celebrates its second birthday with Flex003, a compilation featuring ten tools from new, up-and-coming and established artists from around the globe.

Ranging from 90 to 160+ BPM, the release encompasses multiple aspects of experimental club music such as dancehall, drum’n’bass, leftfield techno and broken beats sounds.

The compilation kicks off with a bass post-club experiment of ‘Gain XP’ from Bladeblanc, which leads to the combination of broken beats and atmospherical sound design of ‘Wonder’ from AYLN. Follows ’East Wing Oslo House’, the new techno-adjacent-mutant-club contribution from Ikävä Pii, and ‘Scamming’ from Lighght with its psychedelic vocals and pitch-shifting percussions. To close off the first side of the album we find the leftfield techno of Alec Pace’s ‘Ghost Money’ with its syncopated bass and mysterious vocals. Opening the second half the compilation is Honeydrip with her new work ‘Wake the Phone’, characterised by a bouncing beat and a 90's feel, followed by ‘Sentimento’, the quirky and hypnotic interlude signed by BLCKEBY. Hassan Abou Alam then brings the listener into a distant world with his glitchy robotic tool titled ‘Freeze’. The BPM then shifts up for an explosive ending where club-driven percussive rhythmics blends with d’n’b excursions in ‘Day After the Last Day’ from Diessa and ‘Rek’ from NORA DRUM.

On ACEN010 Sydney based producer Hence Therefore steps out from releasing on his own 3BS imprint to deliver a two track single on All Centre.

A side ‘Waste Frontier’ utilises elastic percussion and torn samples drenched in his signature atmospheric reverbs as it Gradually building from a handful of carefully placed elements into a spacious dance floor excursion. The body of the track melodies and kick drum patterns against each other eventually giving way to an emotive lead melody supported by driving drums.

B side ‘Census Map Museum’ axis's around a chromatic melody which bobs around the stereo field as the frenetic percussion builds around it. As the track presses on supporting melodies grow from the main motif creating a web ear worms that carefully jostle amongst one another.

The percussive, bass-heavy 'Knok' sees HUNA leaning into febrile glitchy rhythms, rattling breaks and subtle dissonance, gently balanced by atmospheric synths and piano motifs.

Premiere: HUNA - Knok

On ACEN018 we welcome long-time friend of the label @Duswunder. Plated Body is the first four-track EP on All Centre, showcasing the breadth and versatility of Duswunder’s sound.

The EP kicks off with Adorned, immediately introducing Duswunder’s characteristically complex sound design. Enchanting pads lay the foundation before giving way to a disorientating DnB-adjacent rhythm. From here refined, abrasive textures dominate whilst tender melodies lurk beneath. The track reaches its peak with a dizzying arpeggiated melody, eventually giving way to the subdued choral pads.

The next track is Loccc, slowing the tempo but keeping the intensity strong. A range of meticulously manipulated percussive noises weave around intricate drum patterns. The track eventually breaks down, resembling something of a malfunctioning machine, as stunning melodic lines rise from the corroding rhythms.

We then find ourselves with the interlude Sprung. An exercise in space and weight, the track contrasts moments of enthralling intensity and near-silence, punctuated by shimmering synths and affecting vocal samples.

Duswunder closes the EP with Evo. The track gradually brings the energy back up to an apex with the introduction of driving kicks, accented by morphing percussion hits and alluring voices. Emotive melodic elements lie beneath the driving rhythms, brought to the forefront as the track breaks down, before closing out with another arresting rhythmic assault.

The concept of music designed specifically for Airports was pioneered by Brian Eno in the 70s and has since come to be known generically by the term Ambient. The connotations that this term carries are those particularly associated with the kind of material that Brian Eno produced - familiar tunes arranged and orchestrated in a lightweight and derivative manner. Understandably, this has led most discerning listeners (and most composers) to dismiss entirely the concept of ambient music as an idea worthy of attention.

Airpods are defined as a mood, or an inherent influence: a tint. My intention is to produce original pieces ostensibly (but not exclusively) for these particular headphones with a view to building up a small but versatile catalogue of music suited to a wide variety of moods and atmospheres.

Whereas the extant music labels proceed from the basis of regularizing environments and headphones by blanketing their acoustic and atmospheric idiosyncracies, Music for Airpods is intended to enhance these. Whereas conventional music is designed to strip away all sense of doubt and uncertainty (and thus all genuine interest) , Airpod Music retains these qualities. And whereas their intention is to `brighten' the sound by adding stimulus to it (thus supposedly alleviating the tedium of routine tasks and levelling out the natural ups and downs of the body rhythms) Airpod Music is intended to induce calm, a space to think and Euphoria at the same damn time.

Pressure Dome emerges from the testbed with a galvanized collection of experiments in hybridity and rhythmic fragmentation. 

Mechanically twisted dancehall sonics, tough club steppers and euphorically charged electronics combine to form an ionized trajectory of uniform motion. A bouncing and fractious ode to the wavelengths of machine pressure. 

Wanting to give back to the city we live in and one that inspires so much creativity in those fortunate enough to access opportunity, all profits from PDCOMP003 will go to Community Care Package, a free food delivery service, for anyone who can't get out or afford fresh fruit and veg during the current pandemic. Thereafter, profits will go to Caring in Bristol, a homeless charity providing services and shelter for those most in need.
