Begun as a lockdown project, the ‘We Live In The Hills EP’ explores a vast palette of sonic soundscapes, from the shimmering guitars and acid lines of ‘Melon Steppin’, to the insistent rolling bass and whimsical synths of ‘Save Me’, the deep funk of the EP’s title track, and the late nite driving soundtrack stylings of ‘Sixth Bridge’. This EP tells a hopeful story of emerging from isolation and doubt, like a lovely musical sunrise after a long dark night.

A wonderful song with a heartwarming hook. Jimi Tenor and Tomasz Guiddo at their best. With three delightful feel-good remixes by the shining light, Erobique, Freestyle Man and Ale Castro. Erobique, who recently had chart hits in middle Europe and was a member of International Pony with DJ Koze back in the days. He also wrote fantastic musical scores for the "Tatortreiniger" TV series (with Bjarne Mädel) and celebrated sold-out live shows all over Germany and Austria. Freestyle Man, perhaps better known as Sasse from Moodmusic, is recognized for delivering many excellent deep house gems. Ale Castro from Argentina also contributes to the top- notch remixes with a DJ-friendly house version.
Last but not least, the legendary Austrian crooner Louie Austen works his magic with his voice on "Smile," conjuring a smile on our faces.

"Where The Wild Roam" EP unveils a sublime synergy between Tomasz Guiddo and Jimi Tenor, poised to enchant listeners through a 12" vinyl release on Compost Records.

Tomasz Guiddo, a regular on Compost Records, is celebrated for his diverse musical expressions across labels such as Beats In Space, Luv Shack, Get Physical, KID, and even Ostgut Ton (Manhooker), covering genres from jazz to deep house and disco, and Jimi Tenor, the revered Finnish maestro, a genius composer described as a mixture of Gil Evans, Jimi Hendrix, and Fela Kuti, seamlessly melds their talents, crafting a sonic experience that transcends traditional genres.

A notable highlight of this EP is the contribution of the legendary Austrian crooner Louie Austen on the second track "Smile", adding a touch of elegance to the collaboration. The allure of this musical tapestry is further heightened by three exquisite remixes by Erobique, Freestyle Man, and Ale Castro.

New Islands is a new reissue arm from LA's excellent Pleasure of Love label, and it launches with first ever 12" vinyl and digital versions of Kim Yaffa’s long-lost gem of a single, 'Once Bitten.' Next to the original track, fresh remixes from Michael David and Nick the Record & Dan Tyler complete a standout inaugural package.

Released in 1989, 'Once Bitten' is the lone single from Kim Yaffa, an LA singer once signed to the Hollywood indie label Macola Record Co. Not long after recording this single, Yaffa shelved her music career and moved on to other aspects of the business, but she has become a cult figure amongst those who knew her work. 'Once Bitten' has only ever been available on 7" before now and is an effortlessly classy pop tune with hints of 80s blue-eyed soul and Sade-inspired sounds that lend it a timeless Balearic feel. Copies of the original 7” have been changing hands for as much as $2,000 online in recent years. Hence, this is a genuine bit of musical treasure.

Says Kim about the release, "In the Late 80s Los Angeles had so much going on musically. After singing on a couple of records on Macola Records and backgrounds for other artists, I was searching for my sound, trying to find my footing as a songwriter and performer. I connected with a producer who seemed to get what I was going for and we hired Richard Elliot from Tower of Power at the time for that sexy horn sound, and we recorded Once Bitten and Lights of LA at Larrabee Sound. I think I was really into what Sade and Taylor Dayne were doing at the time, that jazzy vibe! We pressed the songs to a 45 and soon after were kind of forgotten about."

Remixer Michael David is a member of the influential Los Angeles-based group Classixx, has released music on Cascine Records and worked with Holy Ghost!, Meyer Hawthorne, and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. His version adds oodles of echo and reverb, slows things down and makes it a more trippy affair with languid lead guitars that bring a seductive and sleazy feel. London-based production duo and Record Mission label founders Nick the Record and Dan Tyler have vast DJ experience between them. Nick runs the Tangent party with John Gomez, and Dan Tyler is one-half of the legendary Idjut Boys. Their remix is perfectly sunny, primed and ready for open-air dancing with its exquisite flutes. The soulful original vocal is left to roll and will ensure this one becomes a real Balearic anthem.
'Lights of LA' is a second original from Yaffa that oozes low-key 80s charm. It has steamy sax and vocals and lush acoustic guitars, all irresistibly tingling the senses.

New Islands will focus on the forgotten cross-genre and cross-cultural music of the 80s, 90s, and 00s, connecting them with the future. This first project is a superb one to get it underway. Pre-order HERE.

There are more than 310,000 people homeless in England today, a visible effect of the austerity policies of the evil Tories. A lot of time, work and money is needed to solve the problem – and the solid British label Paisley Dark Records, through its Shelter Me branch, is doing its part by bringing to life the third instalment of its charity series: “Shelter Me – In Crisis” gathers a starry line-up of artists hailing from various corners of this crazy and doomed little blue dot of ours aiming to raise awareness for the growing homelessness emergency in the UK. 

On board: Al Mackenzie, A Space Age Freak Out (remixed by Mindbender), A-Tweed X Oltrefuturo, Cosmikuro, Duncan Gray, Högt I Tak, Hunterbräu, Ian Vale, James Rod, Jezebell, Mr BC, Pete Gleadall, (remixed by Ed Tomlinson), Shunt Voltage, Stylic (remixed by Keith Forrester), Tecwaa, Tronik Youth, Warriors Of The Dystotheque & Joe Duggan (remixed by Ed Mahon), and last but not least Zillas On Acid. “With such an impressive lineup, we are determined to exceed our past accomplishments”, stated the label gang on the PR text, “setting an initial fundraising goal of 4K”. FYI: All proceeds are going to be donated directly to the UK-based charity Crisis (https://www.crisis.org.uk/).

Premiered here, Master Duncan Gray’s (SXDNS075) contribution is one of the highlights of the compilation. “The Remote Control Thief” comes with a perfect House-Music-inspired bassline topped with imposing synth layers and a gorgeous acid gait.

In Flagranti (Sasa Crnobrnja & Alex Gloor)

The duo has always made a great case demonstrating how “inspiration” from the creative works of others can truly be made into something new and totally distinct from the source material.  But whether you know the source material bears major influence on what their interpretation is going to even sound like to you.  In other words, you could be hearing the same song as another listener is, but if you’re familiar with the source material, you’re going to also be hearing that, while someone who isn’t familiar with it won’t.  Most of their listeners have no idea this is even going on, or could even be allowed.
I figure I follow In Flagranti quite closely, but I only make a connection here, or a connection there.  Sometimes this happens immediately, other times it’s taken years to notice.  Most connections I will never even be aware of, and I don’t listen for them, they just stand out to me or they don’t.  Sometimes I only discover the source material long after I’ve been familar with In Flagranti’s take on it, which you’d think would detract from the latter, but for me, it only adds to it.  In Flagranti’s musical interpretations show a certain ethic and a philosophy that parallels their approach to visual content.  It’s so “meta” that I’m at a loss to describe it, except to say what I often do:  Warhol would be In Flagranti’s biggest fan if he was around to witness them. – truckerdisco.wordpress.com

Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows.
