A new life

This recording is done with two Contact mics, attached to the wire rope which acts as a support for the pylon, used by SEPA, for measuring water levels in the River Forth. There are so many harmonics travelling through the wire, and it sounds like its own symphony. The vibrations from the traffic crossing the nearby motorway bridge are travelling through both the air and ground, which causes the wire to vibrate. Although not instantly recognisable, you hear a rhythm of the vehicles passing over a gap in the bridge structure, which causes fluctuations in the frequencies of the vibrations. You also hear the Doppler effect from the passing vehicles.

I was trying to record the magpies as they settle in for the night but they weren't cooperating with me.  But I did notice my old windmill was making some interesting squeaking sounds in the light breeze so I wondered up and put the Lom Usi's onto the base of it.

Dawn chorus with....er.....zombie birds?  While I often try to record dawn chorus's and ambient sounds as well as I can, this just isn't one of them ok?  Just for a bit of fun.  Headphones on and serious hats off.

Dawn Of Things

Just as the sky begins to lighten at dawn, the Magpies start up their dawn chorus.  This is around three quarters of an hour before sunrise so most birds are still quiet.  Pity about the neighbor's irrigation pump - just try to ignore that bit.  Lom Usi Pros into SD Mixpre 3 with the low cut filter on.

Crows and Magpies settling down for the evening on my farm.  (actually, I think they're Little Ravens).  Some interesting cicadas ?? or similar insect making some noise at 2.52 and a distant neighbor's bull at 3.56.  sE8 mics into Mixpre 3
