He presents the 12th Orbitinging, adding "This mix is best enjoyed in a calm, undisturbed environment, ideally in nature, where you can feel the presence of natural light and air. Of course, you can also listen while walking, using noise-canceling headphones to immerse yourself in the experience."

Mohemann a.k.a. Lyu Zhi-Qiang from China is an artist and DJ who creates collages through a variety of styles of music. To him, the process of DJing is a serious artistic endeavor and a rite of passage to peer into one's own heart and world. He hosts the techno label and radio station “Tunnel”, which is present in all the major clubs across China; runs the ambient music label “Eerawai Ambient Series” and participates in the curating the Minimal music event “M.A.N.L”. He is also a resident DJ at one of Beijing's renowned underground clubs “Zhao Dai”.

Favouring cool and serious music, his genres span Ambient, Minimal, Techno, Deep, Dub, Hypnotic, Psychedelic and Experimental. He explores the creative combination of experimental electronic and dance music, focusing on the deeper self-reflection and self-experience expressed through sound. In this way, he pursues the infinite freedom of mind and body in a limited timeline.

He has selected a Chinese track from this mix—"Spring Song" by He Xuntian—to share with us. He first heard it through a friend and was immediately moved. "For years, I never had the right opportunity to play this song. Recently, I’ve tried incorporating it into different gigs, but it never felt quite right—until now. While preparing this mix, I finally felt this was the perfect moment for it."

It was during the Chinese New Year holiday while preparing for this mix, that Mohemann also took the opportunity to travel and unwind, resetting himself for the year ahead. He revealed that he is preparing to release a new compilation for his lable "Tunnel", and expressed excitement about having more opportunities this year to share his music in different places as well as building new connections worldwide.

在這次的混音作品中，他特別挑選了一首中文歌──何训田的《春歌》──和我們分享，這是他從朋友那兒聽來的歌，說聽到的當下就十分感動：「這些年一直沒有機會放，最近也試圖在很多場合去放，但一直覺得不是很合適，直到準備這個set時，覺得這應該是最合適的時候了。」

Mohemann提到在準備這次作品時正逢中國春節假期，於是就四處走走、放鬆一下，為新一年的工作調養狀態。他並透露其廠牌「隧道」正準備發行一張合輯，也期待今年能有更多機會到不同的地方分享音樂，與世界各地建立更多的連結。

The 24 solar terms originated from ancient astronomers dividing the solar year into 24 equal parts, marking the Earth's journey around the Sun. Orbitinging resonates with nature’s breath, deepening our connection to Earth's rhythms.

Orbitinging 12 - Mohemann

It is not easy to find Saphira, and it is even harder to leave. If it so chooses, the city will appear first as a quivering mirage on the horizon, second as a blinding stone mirror, and third as a sprawling maze whose sounds and sensations embrace the traveler in a slow and languid frenzy. Quite famously, it is home to countless locked eyes and spellbound hearts. It is a place whose deep currents of longing, like the sound of its ocean shore, seem to rumble and hiss under the surface of every word and gesture, in every bead of sweat that blooms from the glimmering skin of its people.

Saphira is at all times caught between a low-lying sun to the west and a glowing moon to the east. They hang above the skyline with an eerie stillness, watching the city’s tireless creatures writhe together in tenderness and sin, casting upon them a pale, silvery gold light that hangs heavy in the humid air. It is in the tension of this peculiar light and its slender, tangled shadows that Saphira’s longing grows dense and time thickens within its walls. Traveler and resident alike are suspended in an endless eros, caught tightly between pain and pleasure, between the sting of saltwater in one’s eyes and the sticky sweetness of ripe fruit on one’s lips. 

Perhaps this is why Saphira’s radios and televisions stutter with phrases and images so ghostly yet so intimately familiar, why its dusty buildings seem always to crumble so gloriously yet never collapse, why around every corner there is a street that so closely resembles one of a distant and loving memory, and why the curling flakes of paint on its walls and facades will reach out against the heat without fading or falling. It is a city inside of want and outside of time.

Forest Drive West, Felix K and DB1 are LEVL. Together, they explore the murky territory between drum & bass, techno and experimental electronics, crafting a distinctive sound that defies the boundaries of genre. The trio's collaboration began with DB1 and Forest Drive West putting out music through Berlin-based Felix K’s label Hidden Hawaii, which led to the formation of LEVL: a combination of each artist’s unique production approach that creates a cohesive and innovative sound. 

LEVL's debut release, “LEVL#1”, was issued in 2019 on Arcola, a sub-label of Warp Records, a bass- and breaks-heavy record showcasing their ability to blend ambient textures with complex rhythms. “LEVL#2”, on Felix K's Nullpunkt label, further explores the intersection of ambient, drum & bass and techno.

Beyond their recorded output, LEVL brings a strong energy to live performances, delivering an immersive and genre-bending musical experience. With meticulous attention to detail, the group pushes the boundaries of electronic music through soundscapes that challenge and captivate listeners.

Dubwise atmospherics flood Guy Brewer's third RA Mix.

Hear the word "Dionysus" and you picture the Greek god of ecstasy: overflowing tables, delirious revelry, chaos. Not the austere soundworld of Guy Brewer, AKA Carrier. On the surface, the UK artist's latest alias feels almost Spartan. But look closer and the Dionysian link starts to show:  it's about shedding fixed forms and identities, to allow something more true, more alive, to form. 

RA.1011 marks Brewer's third entry in the RA Mix series, following editions as drum & bass outfit Commix (RA.269) and, later, the techno alias Shifted (RA.310). "I guess it's an effort to step away from purism," Brewer told <i>Resident Advisor</i> back in 2023. "Right now the thresholds between genres are where you find the most exciting music." 

Carrier's phenomenal debut album, <i>Rhythm Immortal</i>, delivers on that promise. Low-end pressure cloaks like foreboding shadows, punctured only by eerie, otherworldly percussion comparable only to Photek or T++. Listen to the LP in full and it feels like walking through a scene in a true-crime drama: a fog-drenched city street in the deep of night, ambushed by gusts of wind, whispers and strange noises—and it sounds totally, utterly original.

Tracing a line through dub pressure, fractured percussion and narcotic ambience, Brewer explores that same world on RA.1011. As with the album, there's a primal pulse that threads through the recording. Walls of negative space seem to hover before dissolving inexplicably, their tension intact; drums move more like the weather than rhythm. - Bella Aquilina
