My newest single released April 15! A Dreamy Pop ballad about love that was written for a friend of mine who was going through a very tough break up. There was a lot of love in the relationship, but her partner was having mental health issues at the time, which he felt he needed to deal with on his own. In the end she knew she had to set his spirit free, and hence “Fly Bird” was written.

This is a little bit like the Everly Brothers version of Lucille but a bit heavier. I have used mostly the original lyrics as well as some in Everly brothers version and half a line of my own.

PS I love Little Richard's original version...Albert Collins and Little Richard wrote the song in 1956. It was recorded on 30th July 1956. Happy 67th birthday Lucille!

Den erst in den stillen Stunden der Nacht findet er Ruhe um seinen Klangträumen zu begegnen. 

Stille fast fragende Akkorde in der Nacht. Welche Poesie verbirgt sich hinter diesen leisen zarten Tönen ?

Die Antwort weiß nicht einmal der Pianist der sich spontan in der Nacht zu diesen Akkorden inspirieren ließ. Zarte, feine und liebevolle Akkorde in der Nacht.

"Piano Night Chords" (08/21/2023)

Dark Night Piano is the subject of a music series in loose succession.

Musical dialogues of a composer with his piano at night.
Only in the quiet hours of the night does he find peace to meet his sound dreams.

Silent almost questioning chords in the night. What poetry is hidden behind these soft, gentle tones?

Not even the pianist who spontaneously let himself be inspired to these chords that night knows the answer. Tender, fine and loving chords in the night.

Waltz In Shades Of Gray - Improvised Piano Piece

ON|RUST as it appears here on soundcloud is the first stage of a small project that is actually called O|N|RUST consists of this track, plus a Bandcamp version (January 2024 - supplemented with two short pieces for percussion and electronics) and a 2024 small scale vinyl release. I've built a number of rhythmic sound machines especially for this piece which mainly consists of the hum and interference of electrical equipment supplemented with an electric guitar drone. Mastered by Rupert Clervaux.

PROGRAM NOTES: “Livid Loneliness of Fear” for Mezzo Soprano, Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello and Percussion was commissioned by the Music in the American Wild Ensemble as part of their series entitled “The American Aviatrix.” Being a long-time resident of Kansas myself, I chose to celebrate the famous American aviation pioneer and Kansas native, Amelia Earhart. When I first learned that in addition to being a record-breaking aviator and outspoken advocate for women’s rights, she was also an avid lover and writer of poetry, it was clear that my composition celebrating her pioneering legacy would have to include her words. Her poem “Courage,” which was published the year of her first transatlantic flight in 1928, is extraordinary and I was immediately drawn to her vivid imagery and powerful poetic voice. My setting is guided by this imagery as well as the strong formal aspects of the poem. In addition, during my research into Amelia Earhart I found it endearing that her family and friends always called her by her initials, so I thought it fitting to prominently incorporate these pitches in structurally important moments.

Livid Loneliness of Fear for Mezzo-Soprano and Chamber Ensemble

Composer Ingrid Stölzel has been described as having “a gift for melody” (San Francisco Classical Voice) and “evoking a sense of longing” that creates “a reflective and serene soundscape that makes you want to curl up on your windowsill to re-listen on a rainy day.” (I Care If You Listen)  

Stölzel’s compositions have been commissioned by leading soloists and ensembles, and performed in concert halls and festivals worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Kennedy Center, Seoul Arts Center, Thailand International Composition Festival, Festival Osmose (Belgium), Vox Feminae Festival (Israel), Dot the Line Festival (South Korea), Ritornello Chamber Music Festival (Canada), Festival of New Music at Florida State (USA), Beijing Modern Music Festival (China), Festival of New American Music (USA), and SoundOn Festival of Modern Music (USA). Her music has been recognized in numerous competitions, among them recently the Suzanne and Lee Ettelson Composer's Award, Red Note Composition Competition, the Robert Avalon International Competition for Composers, and the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra Competition. Recordings can be found on various commercial releases including her portrait album “The Gorgeous Nothings” which features her chamber and vocal chamber music. Stölzel teaches composition at the University of Kansas School of Music.
