The chant was one of pain and desperation as he stood amidst the village of shanty huts. This was a place which he had called home for so long but now as he stood staring at the burnt out town that surrounded him he had never felt a stronger sense of disconnect. His heart ached for his missing lover, she had vanished into the shadowy depths of the forest which surrounded the once peaceful town. He shouted into the night, calling her name, "Tabanka" he cried, again and again. 

Sofrito: Tropical Discotheque is a record label made up of Hugo Mendez, Frankie Francis, Lewis Heriz and friends. Based in London they release music of a wonderfully eclectic worldly origin which could be as far removed from the city streets in which they inhabit.  Alma Negra is based in Switzerland and has previously released music for Highlife and INI Movement. This one has tribal dancefloor written all over it.

Suhov is one of the original members of the Budabeats family. He produced an EP and later a full album for the label, focusing mainly on hip-hop. Under his moniker BéTé, he makes edits of forgotten songs from all over the globe. We picked ‘Öli Öli’ because it kind of blends his early BB vibes with his fresh attitude of creating his own edits.

DJ spécialiste des musiques de l'Atlantique Noir, James Stewart emprunte ce terme au sociologue anglais Paul Gilroy (1993). Préférant cette expression à « musiques noires », il envisage les musiques de cet espace géographique comme un ensemble cohérent d'une grande richesse culturelle. 

James Stewart est DJ résident et programmateur des Soirées Black Atlantic Club au Sucre (Lyon) où des artistes comme Pat Thomas, Jupiter Okwess ou Vaudou Game sont venus se produire. Membre du Voilaa Sound System, on le retrouve aussi dans de nombreux festival comme le Worldwide Festival de Gilles Peterson ou les Nuits Sonores... Producteur et percussionniste, son premier EP « Cotonou », sorti le 8 juin 2018 est un succès.
