
The gentle spring sunlight wrapped around the windows, and the classroom of Tomoiku Middle School echoed with the chatter of new students. Haruto and Kanon, who had just entered the school, stood out among their classmates.

Haruto was cheerful and talkative, the type who quickly blended in with those around him. Kanon, on the other hand, was a little introverted but had sharp powers of observation and was good at quietly supporting others. Both of them were excited about the school’s special system—the Pair Test.

“We’re kind of the strongest pair, aren’t we?” Haruto turned to Kanon with a big smile. When they stood side by side, they were as contrasting as spring and summer, yet they struck a perfect balance.
“Yeah… but since it’s everyone’s first time, I’m a little worried about how it will go,” Kanon replied softly.

That day, the theme of their very first Pair Test was announced:
“Choose one symbol that represents spring, and make a presentation to share it with everyone.”

“Alright! This is my specialty!” Haruto immediately folded his arms.
“Really?” Kanon looked at him anxiously. “If we don’t discuss it properly, we might fail.”

They sat together at the edge of the classroom and began to talk. Haruto’s first suggestion was “cherry blossoms.”
“Spring means cherry blossoms! Nobody can think of spring without imagining them in full bloom!”
“That’s true, cherry blossoms are beautiful… but isn’t that too ordinary?” Kanon said modestly. “I’d like to choose something that feels more like us.”

Haruto paused for a moment, then smiled. “Alright, let’s hear your idea.”
Kanon answered shyly, “I think… the wind. Spring wind blows away the cold of winter, it’s warm and comfortable.”

“The wind, huh… that’s interesting. Then how about combining cherry blossoms and wind?”
“What do you mean?” Kanon’s eyes lit up.
“Picture cherry blossoms in full bloom, gently carried away by the wind. That’s spring—and it brings our ideas together as one.”

Kanon nodded happily. “Yes, that would definitely reach everyone!”

Finally, presentation time arrived. Haruto and Kanon stood in front of the blackboard, a little nervous but confident.
“Our symbol of spring is cherry blossoms and wind!” Haruto declared strongly.
“When cherry blossoms in full bloom are lifted by the wind, don’t you feel the arrival of spring?” Kanon continued.
“It’s not just the cherry blossoms—the wind completes the beauty of spring. As a pair, we want to aim for a relationship like cherry blossoms and wind!” Haruto concluded, and the classroom erupted in applause.

The test results would be announced the next day, but the two were already satisfied. As they left the classroom, the spring breeze brushed their cheeks.
“Feels like we’ve made a good start,” Haruto said with a smile.
“Yeah. Let’s keep working together from now on,” Kanon replied with a gentle smile.

Like cherry blossom petals carried by the spring wind, their story had only just begun.
