Bed of Roses presents its first vinyl release, “WVZ”, an EP from enigmatic Portland producer Wav Fuzz. Following releases on Occult Research and Les Yeux Orange, Wav Fuzz continues his progression as a textural architect working in the dreamy underbelly of house and techno with his third release. The title track's arpeggiating stabs and soaring harmonies build into a powerful dancefloor hypnagogue, complemented by the triumphantly balearic and bubbling affirmation of “Lunar.” On the flip side, leftfield proto-house producer Moon B remixes “WVZ” into a funk-tinged, modulating specter, while analog-commandant Vertical67 reins “Lunar” into a cosmic testament to the power of four-on-the-floor.

The closure of fabric has seen a reaction that has been completely humbling and overwhelming to all of us on the team here, from over 150,000 signing a petition of support to raising in excess of £300,000 in donations to help our legal fight. 

Support has come from every corner of the industry, with fundraising events at a number of different venues being held up and down the UK. This response perfectly encapsulates everything the electronic music community represents.

Both fabric Records and our artist led label Houndstooth decided a release that embodies this spirit would be a further powerful way to demonstrate the collective power of our community. We asked artists associated with both labels to donate a track to the cause, needing to act fast we gave a deadline of just 3 weeks in total, from inception to final master. The brief was simple, we asked for a previously unreleased track, either brand new or an alternative version of an old classic.

The response has been far greater than we could have ever anticipated, with an array of amazing artists delivering stunning tracks. Given this generosity every track that has been submitted is featured on the release, meaning an incredible 111 tracks make up the final running order, presented in alphabetical order.

Due to touring and time constraints many more artists could and would have like to have been involved, and we can’t give enough thanks to all the labels that have generously allowed their artists to contribute.

In the era of the playlist, this compilation represents a comprehensive overview of electronic music from the outer fringes of experimental explorations right through to music aimed squarely at the dancefloor.

Ahead of the court date which will determine the long term future of fabric nightclub we’d like to present this compilation as a document of this moment in time but also as the perfect embodiment of everything fabric is and stands for.

‘Panama / Suez’ is the first EP by the three multi-instrumentalists, who collaborated with the goal of creating subtly shifting musical passageways: sonic routes that run between continents of musical category.

The results are two variations of kraut-y, groove-based post-techno that unfurl through mutating polyrhythms and chiming, ethereal guitar play.

With a potential to sustain energy on experimental dancefloors, Panama / Suez lives from Ambarchi, Sprenger and Sollmann’s diverse input while reflecting a common penchant for both pop and the hypnotic.

Dearly Departure's title cut 'Genesis' brings it all back to where it begins. "Inspired by the moodier fringes of LA’s nocturnal underground as well as the “dark gothic energy” of certain fatalist new wave", Crook's track melds the heavy-breathing jack of a classic Chicagoan pumper with the low-key chimey harmonics of a further heliotropic musical bloodline.

"Cake 1" is one of @levonvincent more abstract works. This mid-tempo slow-burner has a woozy, psychedelic feel that recalls RAMZi or Jon Hassell, as elements appear and recede unexpectedly over the course of its eight-minute runtime.

"The album, as it is declared in its unambiguous title, is an attempt to marry club culture with esoteric vibes I'm very fond of. In other words, to connect body and mind, flesh and spirit. This goal, nevertheless, has to be put in perspective. We are speaking of music with a (smaller or bigger) hedonistic component, so let's not be too serious. At the same time, let's not be too frivolous. The path that goes upwards also goes downwards at the same time.
I started to work intermitently in this album a couple of years ago. From back then is "Mi lado oscuro es el que más brilla" ("My dark side is the brightest"), the oldest track of the bunch, composed soon after "Masa negra" was released. It fully exemplifies the aim: dance beats, slowed down tempo, no melody to stick in your brain, a no-hurry approach and, on top of that, sounds and drones which appeal to (let's say) alternative states of conciousness.
"Metal volante" ("Flying metal") came chronologically after that. It follows the steps of the former track, albeit with a shorter, darker, more techno-oriented presentation. It's also a bit more up-tempo. But, to me, that doesn't make any difference. As a musician who also plays in a rock band, my view is Music is only one, no matter which shape it takes to come into being.
The third track is called "Sol Invicto" ("Sol Invictus"), named after the festivities which used to take place in Ancient Rome on the winter solstice. From that date (which marks the longest night of the year) on, the sun starts to regain its throne against darkness. For this very reason, Christianity placed the myth of the birth of Jesus on this date. Therefore, for the track I used vocal samples taken from a version of "Silent Night" sung by a Bulgarian choir, and with its title gave back the meaning of the myth to its origins.
"Carbomedic nº 25" is the brand and model of my artificial cardiac valve (that makes me a bionic man). I had tried to use that title several times in different projects, but for some reasons never seemed appropriate. Until, messing around with a reverb plugin, I came accross the ominous sound that you can hear at the beginning of the track, which reminded me of the sound of an echocardiogram. And then everything clicked. It can be seen for some people as a happy accident, but for some others (including me) it is evidence of the power of subconscious.
The title track has its origins in an improvisation I used to make live as a coda for "El sendero de la mano izquierda" ("The Left Hand Path"), included in "Masa negra". It's a deliberately chaotic, trance-like attemp to reproduce the aural components of non-ordinary states of conciousness. Maybe this is the reason (this is a guess) why it's the track picked by the mighty Esplendor Geométrico to remix and end the album. Significantly, I find their lecture of my track both accurate and heavily theirs simultaneously, which proves, again, that apparent contradictions aren't so if we are able to see a bigger picture than our narrow mind usually do."
