After a very busy summer and winter spent alternatively between touring his signature sound around Europe and sequestering himself in strict studio lock down, Marcus Visionary returns to his own label with his first major release for 2015. Toronto's Jungle Ambassador  brings his inimitable touch to remixing  Dancehall legend Cutty Ranks and UK Reggae impresario Curtis Lynch on four mixes of "Badness".  Cutty questions the current  state of over the top gangster posturing in today's youth asking "How them get so bad?", calling their bluff stating "I don't believe it, I'm just not convinced"  and reminding the listener about some of the real bad men of Jamaican street lore.   Marcus steps up first with the "Tear Out" mix utilizing Curtis Lynch's original riddim track to full effect incorporating  choice digi dancehall steel drums and percussion  into his crowd pleasing  Amen heavy rinse out. A piece of tried tested and true dub plate weaponry guaranteed to whip the dance into a frenzy.  Up next Marcus's "Bashy Mix" pulls away the elements leaving  a futuristic half step  that truly highlights the tracks Bashment origins and segues perfectly with more conventional Drum & Bass.  Rounding out the package is a "Tear Out Dub" mix which strips back and echo chambers out most of the vocals leaving behind an MC ready rave destroyer, and  a re-release of Marcus's original remix of the track which was previously issued on Lynch's Necessary Mayhem imprint.

The summer heat is blazing down on us, carnival is fast approaching  and Marcus Visionary, Toronto's Jungle ambassador,  wasn't  going to sit back and not release some of his signature Ragga Jungle artillery for the season. Toronto production and mastering wizard Schematic returns to Inner City Dance for his most wide reaching project to date, the five track Outsider EP.  After a number of high profile releases over the last year with Hospital Records, Technique and Flight Path, Schematic, real name Dan Dubois, is one of the leading lights out of the new wave of artists bubbling to the surface of the cities long standing legacy with Drum & Bass.  All of Dan's productions display a clinical technical mastery balanced with an innate sense of groove that permeates both in his music and his DJ sets. The Outsider EP represents a multi faceted take on his soul based sound and is the most ambitious output of his career thus far.

Title track "Outsider" showcases Schematics precise clean production, along with his mastery of creating tension and deep melancholy through mournful vocals, and sullen Reece washes. Inner City Dance gladly welcomes upstate New York’s Jungle stalwart Hoogs to the label.  With an extensive DJ history in his home state as one of the main practitioners of the culture, Tom Hoogs brings his impeccable production pedigree to ICD for the first time.

With deep roots in the music, Hoogs sound is equally balanced between heritage and futurism, combining classic Drum & Bass templates with an innovative approach.  Both tracks on his debut encapsulate the smoked out feel of vintage Full Cycle with the bouncy playfulness of Dope Dragon. 

On “Puff Bomb” Hoogs shows his Studio Drum influence even further with layered breaks, familiar vocal snips and an elastic b line completed with classic Krust style squelches and effects. 

Whilst accurately aimed at the dancefloor, Hoogs sense of groove and percussive nuance push his music beyond simple rave fodder and signal him as name to watch for.

Inner City Dance jump into the new decade with their most ambitious project too date, debuting two cuts of accomplished, neo soul inflected Drum & Bass from DJ/Production outfit Trading Fours featuring swiftly rising Toronto vocalist Anastasia. 

Multi-disciplined and diversely rooted, Trading Fours have explored all aspects of dance music in their DJing and productions, but like many of their Toronto contemporaries, their initial influence has always been rooted in Jungle/DnB. Similarly, for Anastasia, her connection to Trading Fours was anchored by their mutual love of Drum & Bass, sharing their formative years together in their hometowns storied scene. In the relatively short time since she has been recording, Anastasia has collaborated her singing and song writing talents with several notable producers resulting in releases on a who’s who of imprints including Critical, Shogun and Program that has seen demand for her unique vocals grow.

Lead cut “Five Hour Tealights” sets a warm and smoky tone from the intro with syrupy chords and languid riffs dropping into skittering beats and wobbling dub wise providing the framework for Anastasia’s demure vocals to sit on top with expert precision.
