Don't Look Back, But If You Do, Do It For The Music MIXTAPE Xmas 2021

This edition of the Innerflight Broadcast features Seattle's Eliogold. Elio and I connected over our love for James Holden and circa 2000 era Electro House/Electroclash/Dance Punk. Countless conversations (and him helping me ID a track from a James Holden mix that I've literally been searching for, for about a decade!) later, we decided we needed to get a mix from him.

Here are some words he had for us about the mix:

"The maze represents the twists and turns I like to take in most of my sets, apparently incoherent at times, but I like to think that there’s order in my chaos. 

I wanted to make this mix special so I made sure to include a lot of unreleased material and rare cuts, also one new track from a forthcoming EP of mine. 

The mix also includes a reference to the wild underground parties we used to throw in Tucson, AZ."

Elio is the founder of the Dazed crew and a regular co-conspirator with De La Creme for their Soft Option parties at Monkey Loft and more. They've got a party coming up this Saturday 4/2/22 featuring:

Taking inspiration from the sound of early synth-wave, post-punk, alternative rock and left-field house, Ciaran clashes upbeat synth melody with dark techno undertones, delivering an ever evolving sound that fills your heart while taking a bite of your soul in the process.

Once an Olympic runner, covering thousands of miles from the deep forests of the Pacific Northwest of the US to the high elevations of the Arizona red rock trails, music was for many a journey Ciaran' only companion. Removed from art and music in his youth in the pursuit of a dream to be the world's fastest mile runner, those long solo hours spent traversing trails for nowhere gave space and countless hours to form a bond and oneness with the collision of indie dance, eclectic and cosmic new wave.

From there a style was born not from traditional music language but formed from connectedness with the earth, breathing, rhythm.

Sean Wood surprised me. Although I had known him for a while, and knew he was a dj with a long history in the dance community, and even though he camped with the DBR for years prior to the pandemic, something happened over the course of a few small quarantine pod squad gatherings- I got hooked! Maybe I was late to the party, but I have a handful of memories where I had to stop dancing and just stand there, mouth agape, thinking "THIS IS SEAN WOOD!!!"  His TCHP+DBR mix is still of my most routinely played, and this one is sure to join the ranks with it's lovely story arc and Dusty vibes!

'Elio Sottoscritti is feverish about electronic music, for him it's much like the rush of discovering gold. The difference is, where others would squander such riches, he's driven to share every ounce of it he finds as an artist and DJ under his moniker Eliogold. Early on he would learn to treasure audio, growing up in the household of a sound engineer father. Being from Florence, Elio would pick up on the traditions of central Italy’s house and techno from exposure to big name clubs and parties like Cocorico', Fortezza da Basso, and Jaiss before taking to the turntables himself around 2003. 

Eliogold has been toiling away at finding the right sounds through which to express himself as an artist producer for years, finally hitting his stride in 2012 and releasing on UK based label Axon Recordings. Elio left his mark in the deserts of Arizona, working hard as a party organizer and leading artist, under the banner of the Dazed & Confused crew, starting in 2015. There, he hosted and played at events alongside international guests such as Supernova, Hector Romero, My Favorite Robot, Project Pablo, Mor Elian and more. Because of his multifaceted style, ranging from house, techno, progressive, breaks, and anything in between, he’s had the opportunity to play at some of the most respected underground parties in the west coast such as Frenzy at Avalon in LA, Techno Taco Tuesday in Vegas, and more. Today he is in Seattle where he relaunched his party brand under the name Dazed and is still hosting parties and performing at local underground clubs such as The Monkey Loft, Kremwerk, Q Nightclub, etc. After a seven years hiatus, he's back on making music, and his EP "Revenge of the Muppet" on Threerecordsuk reached #1 in the Beatport top100 global new releases and Indie Dance charts in early 2022. His passion for sound and language has brought him to terms with one of music’s universal truths. "My background in linguistics taught me that there is only one language that needs no translation and that’s music. There is nothing more inspiring than that and that’s what keeps me going." This understanding has shaped Eliogold, a rare and valuable find for any listener who would be so fortunate to uncover.'

A bit of nostalgia to finish the year.
Exactly four years ago I walked down the tiny basement of the Deli Lama in South London. I had been invited to play at a vinyl-only party. 
I didn't know what to expect so decided to go decided to go for something some of you know I don't usually like on a dance floor, I decided to go for something "a bit random".  
I started slowly, tried my luck here and there and kept going to finish with probably one of the sets I enjoyed the most behind the decks.
Four years on I found back the playlist and just couldn't help give it a go again.  This min-mix is a rework and a tribute to that set, that night and all those who were there and made it so special to me.

We caught Peza soundtracking a beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon last September at the fantastic Festival No.6 and ever since then he's been on our hit list for a mix. Of course, we were already well aware of his super-cool edits on Authodiscotheque and A&R. If you've not heard his Human League re-interpretation; you simply aint dancing in the right places. Look out for a forthcoming remix of Tronik Youth's 'Splinter of the Mind's Eye' on Nein, and his next single 'Mekon' on Peter Herbert's Maxi Discs. Scottish folk could do worse than head to the Reading Rooms in Dundee on March 27th where Peza plays with Dicky Trisco and ALFOS. His mix for us is a beauty; very much the sound of where underground dance music is at in 2015 as far as we're concerned. Lock yourself in, Peza is at the controls...
