Made By Pete returns to Crosstown Rebels as he links up with Zoe Kypri for the anthemic ‘Horizon Red’.

Born and raised in London, DJ and producer Made By Pete has flourished in recent years, making appearances  around the globe from Set Underground (Tulum) and fabric (London) to Off Week (Barcelona) and beyond. Gaining  plaudits from leading names in Damian Lazarus, Keinemusik and Pete Tong, to name just a few, the UK talent has  crafted a string of stand-out releases via the likes of Flying Circus, RADIANT and Crosstown Rebels. Having first  touched down on the imprint in 2018 alongside Jem Cooke for ‘So Long’, with two further appearances since, he  opens the label’s 2023 schedule alongside R&B, jazz and Neo-soul singer/songwriter Zoe Kypri for the gripping  sonics of ‘Horizon Red’ - with the track set to be remixed by label boss Damian Lazarus in the coming weeks. 

“We caught each other’s attention whilst playing sets at Tobacco Dock in London, and the admiration was  mutual. We knew we wanted to create something that evoked feelings of the afterglow. That dissonant  feeling at sunset when the horizon is so fiercely beautiful, yet the inevitability of the day falling behind the  mountains is near. A dynamic track guided by rich chords, rolling organic percussion and Kypri’s powerful yet graceful vocals,  ‘Horizon Red’ is a euphoric and captivating journey balancing energetic builds with deeper moments, while Pete’s Dub strips things back as spiralling synths and hazy atmospheres take hold for a late-night trip.

Christopher Cross - Ride Like The Wind (Ivory’s On The Run Edit)

It's been quite a wait for new Yamil's music to be released on his own Pieces of Life's label, but these four new cuts have been worth waiting for. After an incredible year that saw Pieces of Life dropping the debut album by crew member Clemente, now is time for the Spanish record label to unleash the first reference of the year.

Following appearances on acclaimed labels such as Los Angeles based Sol Selectas, Monaberry or afro house finest MoBlack Recrods, Yamil is back on his own Pieces of Life with Amanecer EP, one of his most requested productions to date.

The EP starts with homonymous track 'Amanecer', a flowing and densely arranged dancefloor meditation, all conjoined by shimmering layers and an ultimately heart-melting Piano improvisation that gets into your head immediately and will leave no crowd untouched.

Next up is 'Cleophatra', which is built on the tension of an oscillating bass line that flickers and shifts through ascending and descending notes that gradually increase in intensity and lead to a powerful African chorus that perfectly match the essence of the song and takes us back to mother earth.

The third song is 'Ritual', which gradually decreases the energy of the previous tracks to take us into an emotional journey, with pleasant pianos and a soft voice that undoubtedly generate peace all along the way.

'Symmetry' is the EP's closer, an impeccable programming of club-ready beats, smooth melodies and a crystal-clear singing voice that puts the finishing touch to this mind-blowing voyage of feelings.

Saraga heads Around The Sun on this escapist new EP for Guy Gerber's revered Rumors label. Saraga is an artist based in Tel Aviv and who releases on esteemed labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Robsoul Recordings, Nervous & Body Parts. He has a well crafted and emotive sound rich in lush synth work. 

Clarity In Motion opens with thinking synth modulations and a heartfelt female vocal. The drums are warm and lock you in for a sublime ride. Around The Sun (Run It) brings an immersive vocal over deep house drums. The track is playful, with steamy lyrics and a smattering of percussion next to smeared, expansive cosmic pads. On Sin City, things take a darker tech house twist with snappy drums and hits and a monologue adding tension. Los Ojos Azules closes out with something of a humid Latin vibe - the drums roll, the percussion is characterful and vocals tease and please. 

These are four hugely original tracks from this ever more essential artist.

Shouse’s “Love tonite” may be one of the most overplayed songs on the radio over the last few years and no wonder that a lot of DJ’s dislike hearing the track but one can’t also deny the warm and addictive feel of the vocals that never fails to impact the crowd. Add to that the fact that there are virtually no darker, progressive house oriented versions available was enough to consider remixing it a challenge. All that contributed to a studio jam session where we wondered WHAT IF?  What if we laid the vocals over a moodier and minimalistic progressive house vibe along with a clubby arrangement that builds suspension and delays the energy release. During a typhoon party on the rugged, volcanic island of Jeju in South Korea, three strangers met by a twist of fate. Island Hill (Al, Barry and Dibby) realised that whilst their musical backgrounds may be wildly contrasting, something really gelled between them. A shared love of vintage synths, blues guitar and psychedelic electronic music has produced Strangers in Paradise - their forthcoming album, released 10th March 2023 on John Digweed’s Bedrock Records. The album is a musical snapshot of their time together on Jeju and is widely tipped as one to watch this year.

 

Ahead of their hotly anticipated album, Island Hill have enlisted the amazing Tel-Aviv based Electronic/Indie duo Red Axes on remix duties for their debut single, Killer of Fate and it’s a match made in heaven.

 

Killer of Fate (Red Axes Remix) is released on 10th February, ahead of Island Hill’s forthcoming album Strangers in Paradise. Opening with a driving bassline, shakers and vintage synths, Killer of Fate (Red Axes Remix) breaks briefly into a soulful blues/folk vocal, then continues with the brooding energy of an oncoming typhoon. You can feel that something is coming. That something is the most dreamy, pacific blues riff, with joyous, psychedelic chords ringing out underneath, making you feel like the storm has passed and you are now bathing in the beautiful pacific island sunlight.

 

Island Hill have produced one of the freshest, most original sounds for decades, from a melting pot of backgrounds and ideas in the studio. It’s no wonder that the electronic music legend John Digweed snapped them up for his label, Bedrock and knew how well Red Axes would remix this incredible track. They were only too happy to be offered a remix from “one of the founding fathers of electronic music.”

 

John Digweed said of the Red Axes’ remix: "I’ve been a big fan for a long time now and when we were discussing remixes for Killer of Fate by Island Hill, I thought they would be perfect to remix it and they’ve done such a great job with it."

We’re happy to announce to familiar faces back to the mothership: Chloe Raunet aka C.A.R. has been a long time friend and made her first appearance on the label with Maceo Plex on “Mirror Me”. Dj and producer extraordinaire Patrice Bäumel certainly doesn’t need much introduction. “Four Down” shows the duo in a rowdy mood. There’s a very welcome punk-ish attitude to the song that is set to brush today’s polished dancefloors against the grain. Here’s what C.A.R. has to say in her own words: “Some collaborations are meant to be. I first met Patrice at Trouw over a decade ago and we instantly hit it off. When he sent me this idea back in lockdown, it wasn’t something I could come up with musically, but words came easy and the song wrote itself. Bouncing ideas back and forth through the ether doesn’t always work, but when you just get each other, distance doesn’t matter and stepping outside your comfort zone can bring about the best, most fun and spot-on results!”

We are back with the second part of our series „Quantum Spits“ to highlight the unique qualities of sub-genres and showcase the incredible talent within the house music universe.

Nandu joined forces with the Danish pop-vocalist Ida Corr to present a blend of deep, soulful, and rhythmic house music. Drawing inspiration from rhythms and distinctive sounds that defined the era of the 90s and early 2000s — think the vibes of producers like Kerri Chandler and Denis Ferrer — Nandu and Ida skillfully infused their own signature touch, creating a stellar Release.

"Tell Me" and "Around" are without doubt the lead tracks and the centerpieces of the release. Two perfect blends of what we love about house music, hunting instrumentals highlighted by standout vocal performances from Ida Corr. Both tunes take center stage in Dixon's sets in 2023. Aligned by Dixon’s Re-structure Edit of “Around” and the track “Wasted”, the EP is one of our highlights of the year.

KRCL’s Mixmag premiered single “I Am Who I Am” finally gets the official remix treatment. The rising Frankfurt based artist KRCL is joined by other label names like Juren Vu and Karakter. The album also includes the KRCL’s own take to bring dance floor focused approach to the original and the trance interpretation from Solis & Sean Truby.
Kicking things off, Karakter, who has been on the rise with releases from Sony Music as well as his live performances, delivers an amped-up remix demonstrating his versatility with flair.
On the other hand, Juren Vu’s remix is built around a solid, pulsating techno groove that robust darker mood, where KRCL’s reinterpretation of his track brings tingling and infectious progressive cut into a bona fide dance floor filler.
The last piece of the album is by the British trance music duo Solis & Sean Truby, who left their mark on last year with their rework of Virtual Self’s Ghost Voices and the track being played everywhere. Once again, raising the bar, the duo brings the vintage trance vibes to the progressive side of dance music. Soaring basslines, melancholic chords and uplifting riffs pull you deeper down the rabbit hole.
The reactions to the new tracks have been nothing short of incredible, providing the litmus test that suggests the remixes are going to make serious waves.
