This is a recording of my live set as MAREK BOIS at the I LOVE VINYL open air in Rottleben (2014-07-04).
The live set was played without the use of a laptop computer. It was performed with: Elektron Rytm, Elektron Octatrack, Elektron Analog 4, Pioneer Rmx 1000, Mackie DL1608, SND Acme, Arturia Microbrute

"We are happy to be out in nature because here there is no judgement" is a timeless saying. The good Friedrich Nietzsche would have said about Soulphiction the following: Michel Baumanns music animates you in such a way because seeing as there is so much nature of every kind in the rhythm. We mean it in regards to his music. This soulfulness and warmth that he brings out from the machines is simply phat like nothing else. A real nature boy who never comes out, he seemingly is. Everything hidden inside of his mind, and channeled into his devices. Yeah yeah, it's okay, I'll open a window to air it out - Michel. Independent from the breeze in the studio, these tones must be released into the world. Musik Krause takes it in. It's about time that the tangent Soulphiction/Jackmate - Jena is for some time now a spirit - and to get it together accordingly. The result of the 'krause-care' from 'philpot-ish' tones is delivered by Mr. Baumann in the form of five songs that are old-school yet modern. When these joints from DJ-Nerdkicker or for example Ben UFO are not sorted into the case, then the next 'Krause Dinner' will be a broom served with mayo.



TRACK INFORMATIONEN 

A1. Ann Arbor  Iggy Pop originally comes from Ann Arbor. Straight up, "Iggy and Moodyman were with Souphiction jamming together in the studio"...finest cinematic-poetry-house-punch from the funk cellar.
 A2. Bass Jam The bass jam comes together with Mr. Rhodes soulfully & slowly in the door. Inside there is a bit of the beat research along with breaks, claps and strobo rattling in a race but everything (please) in slow motion.
 B1. With Attitude A juicy and compact techno shuffling to a neck massage, seasoned with essence of acid "with attitude"-accents and rough 'n' deep sounds that still sound like the freshest techno.
 B2. Detox  Narly Bartley-House on the soulful sunny side. A proper groove is in the body as something for the repeat button-stomper. The saying: "in brevity lies the seasoning" in song format formed for the sensual rave.
 B3 Riot. Party In three minutes cleaned up or at once taken apart, Soulphiction concludes at last with the whip. From the thrown about drink bottle the rest is swigged, smeared lipstick and all...kick out the jams, folks.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (8th May) This week we welcome Rob Booth for a special Houndstooth label mix and it's a return for Luke Vibert on Solid Steel with a crazy mash-up mix. Rob Booth steps up in Hour 1 with a mix celebrating 2 years of the excellent Houndstooth record label, where he heads up A & R and he also runs the well respected Electronic explorations podcast. Another Falty DL Solid Steel intro starts the show and Rob had this to say about his mix;
“I wanted to present the mix in two parts, the Solid Steel way. The 1st half showcases repertoire primarily from the 1st eighteen months, no better way than starting with our inaugural record, the Present Tense 12” by Call Super, such an exciting artist culminating with his recent critically acclaimed debut album. Of course I also had to include a few tracks from the Soul Music LP, Paul Woolford’s Special Request moniker, especially the Hackney Parrot VIP, coupled with the polished jungle/techno experimentalism of Akkord and the 160bpm mosaic of Throwing Snow.
As the mix enters the 2nd half the emphasis moves to our latest signings, Berlin based Marquis Hawkes, Norwegian duo Soft as Snow and LA duo 18+, who’ve kept us busy this past year with the mix concluding with Jassy Graz on vocals, a personal favourite, was so good to see Ross and Jassy invited to Maida Vale LIVE for Radio 1. I can’t stress enough the privilege of being on SS, I’ve been archiving these shows for so long now”

A unique type of breakthrough act delivers this week's mix.

Marquis Hawkes debuted in 2012, releasing a trio of EPs on Glasgow's Dixon Avenue Basement Jams label. Drawing from classic Chicago house, with a no frills approach to production that made him the perfect fit for the label (whose motto is "real rockin' raw shit from the street for the clubs"), the EPs made him an instant one-to-watch in house and techno. 2014 was Hawkes' most productive year yet: as well as another record on Dixon Avenue, he delivered records for European labels that fit his approach (Clone Jack for Daze, Creme Organisation) and inked a deal with Houndstooth, who released his Fifty Fathoms Deep EP.

Hawkes is no kid, however (if you didn't gather that from the illustration above): a British ex pat in Berlin, he was making music for 15 years before finding success as Marqius, and his FACT mix draws from two decades of buying and making dance records. DBX, Kerri Chandler, Armando and Roy Davis Jr are all included, while there's also an airing for newer, but still classic-sounding house from Leon Vynehall and Delroy Edwards.
