IS 344 - Nicuri [Sound Theory]

Born and raised in Union City, New Jersey, Nicuri’s journey toward producing music and DJing took hold later than most. Moving in circles surrounding the Exchange Place crew (DJ Qu, Joey Anderson & David Salazar) helped craft his style of DJing & music influences. Musical influences were many, especially growing up in the early 80’s, listening from hip hop to new wave and other form of genres in and around those times. His first house & techno experience was in the very early 90’s when a schoolmate had mentioned of certain underground radio stations in NY playing club music. He was then hooked. Nicuri spins a range from soulful/deep house to deep minimal/techno. His DJ style is careful selections arranged skillfully into to one seamless journey. His start as a DJ had landed him spinning at Concrete in Paris and at the Panorama Bar in Berlin on his first tour. From there he’s spun at the Panther Room in Output and many other parties in NYC. 
		
Nicuri’s first track release was on DJ Qu’s record label Strength Music on the Exchange Place series called “Ridinthatneedle”. It was a start on his journey to connect with people through his music. His fledgling discography include other releases on labels such as Growin” Musci, Inimeg Records, Bliq, Mora Music, YYG. In 2014, he had established his own record label called “Sound Theories” to further put out more of his music to the public. 


Hoboken, New Jersey native Joey Anderson launched his label Inimeg Recordings in early 2011. His first release on the label Organisms, featuring longtime comrade DJ Qu garnered a welcoming response from media outlets across the globe including RA and Concepto Radio. Anderson’s previously released tracks Dive Deep, Thee Analysis and Oval alongside his Exchange Place crew ignited an interest that is continuing to burgeon. With deep roots in the underground House Music scene of New York City as a masterful dancer, Joey Anderson’s evolution to producer, DJ and label owner were almost inevitable. His latest release We Are Not Alone with industry fav Jus-ED is a strong cohesive follow up to his premiere release. Moody vibes juxtaposing intergalactic intonations mixed with deep rhythmic consciousness, encompass Anderson’s sound.

Summer 2012 will mark Anderson’s first official debut to the European market playing the likes of  Free Rotation festival++. Domestically Anderson has played various underground parties like Sound Noir, Boundless and Clubhouse. And continues to collaborate with various artists and labels like Fabric London, Soul People Music, Levon Vincent, Finale Sessions and Deconstruct.

SPIRITUAL | MENTAL | PHYSICAL was founded by 4AM NYC in 2017 as an event series dedicated to serving the three critical aspects of a pivotal nightlife experience: Music to move you, a Message to soothe you, and Memories to treasure. 
It is multi-format, multi-genre, and high quality audio focussed. It exists in service to The Guest: an open invitation to come find connection and fun -to lose oneself in a safe haven of low light and multi-genre soundscapes provided by true underground artists. It brings together talent from around the world who would not normally mix, but are perfectly suited to play alongside one another on just the right night, in just the right space. You will hear DJs and performers throw down with abandon. You will see Legends and Locals tackle unlikely time slots with relish. Everyone is given their proper time and space. Worlds collide.
It has been hosted as a monthly function at various venues across NYC, notably- LE BAIN, JUPITER DISCO, GOOD ROOM, BOSSA NOVA CIVIC CLUB
