He fled without words from his workplace, the other labourers around glancing quickly up at their fellow tearing across the derelict site of their toil. Ducking between the scaffolds, his hands clawing wretchedly at his heavy form, as his insides churned and wave after wave of pure violence washed through him. He found the entrance, gasping with relief and pain, before dropping swiftly into the cave beneath the foundation and falling starkly into the dim blackness of the tunnels below. Writhing on the cold stone ground, he felt it ripping through his back and up the side of his face, his eyes glazing then filling with the fire of a pure primal energy as he arched his head back and let out a tearing sound of unleashed psychic tearing and the breaking of his mind. It had him in its grasp, claws ripping through his hands – its presence overtaking him and unveiling his true SHAPESHIFTER nature.

AKOV follows up his recent initial foray on the label with a solid step into the EATBRAIN fold in the form of the SHAPESHIFTER EP. Comprising 4 tracks of exquisitely dynamic neurofunk and experimental beats that dares to dive between tempos and deliver an entirely fresh take on the genre. From the outset with title track SHAPESHIFTER, a curve ball hits swift, as a straight intro leads into a drop that stretches reality and deviates between spacious reese action and busy percussion, before heavily reglitching itself into a deliciously wonky form. ABRAXAS leads a more epic path with a shimmering, beautiful intro infused with ethnic aesthetics that gives way to an entirely punishing machinegun drop that only pauses to reload and issue a heavy staccato bass cannon. With GAMES WITH GOD featuring THE CLAMPS, the metallic nature of the drums edges up a notch and the vibe leans toward a more sinister but rolling edge. FIRST CONTACT turns the tempo way down to 128 but elevates the attitude to a new level, delivering a chugging and brutish stepper of a tune that carries its neuro core effectively to the vein.

The range of ideas within the Shapeshifter EP serves as a technical breath of fresh air to a genre that’s build on the concept of progression and experimentation. Akov delivers the manifesto of an artist intent on pushing the sound further, delivered on a label at the forefront of futuristic d&b.

The mass of supplicants prostrated just beyond its twisted paws, their pathetic mewling pleasantly caressing the towering feline fiend’s ears as they expressed their divine agony. Drinking up the delicious earmilk of their pain, it reclined languidly in its glorious pedestal; a mass of flesh and sinews with the fine carved bones from the countless many condemned to this realm of eternal torment. Its three eyes rolled apathetically to fall upon one particular beggar, drained of almost all remaining life from her years pennance, spent at the foot of the infernal throne, worshipping the glory of pain in all its truth and crying for salvation. The utter futility of this endeavor suddenly dawned on the great cat, as the constancy of myriad calls made for escape fell upon his ears at once. Suddenly annoyed by this ever-present sound, he reached out, spearing the pathetic being before him with a claw and flinging her from into rock and into the depths of the molten river below. His eyes watched her form ignite and fade in the heat, her soul joining others to be swept into its current on a journey to be reborn as pitiful lesser devils elsewhere in the plane. How benevolent an act, the cat thought to itself, freeing the pitiful creature from her suffering for a brief moment and more even - giving her the opportunity of such an esteemed metamorphosis. Even though the pathetic fiend she would be reborn as would hold not even a candle to his own magnificence, it would still be a marked improvement against the limits of her prior flesh. Sated by his own thoughts, he leaned forward once, rotating his vast ears to better drink in the fresh desperate energy of the remaining supplicants. Its hideous mouth opened to a wide, sharp smile, revealing cruelly serrated fangs that shone unnaturally with a umbral hue. “A reward for my benevolence,” he thought as he plucked the nearest wretch from the rock with a single talon, his pupils sharpening with focussed malevolence as he tossed them into his fur-lined maw. Satisfied, his hunger temporarily sated, there was but one thing left to do. He would take a nap.

The ZOMBIE CATS return to the label that set the fire on their ferocious project back in 2014, placing them on a fierce trajectory of furiously kinetic releases that have brought them to the present, their most pointed assault on the eardrums yet with the WORLD’S END EP on EATBRAIN. With the title track tearing out of the mouth of hell with slower bpm but highly charged energy, further establishing the newly forming neurowave genre, the cats make a bold statement from the outset. Also featuring 2 intense collaborations with masters of their art ABIS and MALUX, alongside 3 further astounding intensely fresh solo cuts, the WORLD’S END EP is a welcome return for one of tech dnb’s most respected duo’s, on one of the genres most consistent labels. Their status as elite was undeniable, a twin humanoid team paired with the heavily armed hybrid, all of them augmented with cutting edge wetware and black-ops endtech. Gazing over the wasted metropolitan landscape of the old capital of this dead-end planet, they activated their internal dataspikes carrying their encrypted tasks and poured over the contents // RETRIEVAL - HIGHER LEVEL SONIC WEAPONRY WITH CAPITAL DESTRUCTION CAPABILITIES - COORDINATES TRANSMITTED & EMBEDDED IN SUB-SURFACE NEURAL LAYER // The subnotes indicated its capacity to disintegrate entire buildings with a highly focussed emission of intense articulated resonant frequencies. Looking around, evidence of this was clear, with gaps in the broken skyline, where the great towers of this city’s ruling megacorp once stood. Heaps of fine grey sand lay in their place, the result of the device’s terrible effect - reducing them to base states of entropy. The hybrid scanned the barren landscape with its ocular implants, marking the coordinate location in the team’s HUD systems and rapidly switching through the various optical spectrums of its threat detection system. They set forward determinedly, moving quickly through the ruins that remained, closing the distance to the objective quickly. They moved in deathly silence, their steps masked by phase cancellation pads in their boots, allowing even their hulking hybrid companion to move as a quietly as the whisper of death on the fringe of the wind.

They took position upon the upper floor of a broken building, looking out upon the crater in which the device rested. The rival merc crew that was working with frenetic pace below to detach the weapon from its housing were basic operators, their heat signatures highly visible and open radio comms, real amateurs. Without a word, the trio dropped down from the vast height, the air moving over them without resistance as their suits excited and repelled the molecules that moved against them. Touching down in silence, their ruthless assault began - shouldering his chaingun, the team’s EM specialist rained a hail of fire upon their rivals with ruthless precision, each shot locked and guided to their mortal marks by the EM signals produced by the weapons of his very targets. His partner moved quickly from cover to cover, his implants working furiously, hijacking the soldiers senses and systems, disabling them and making them easy targets for the hybrid - charging furiously forward, devastating their ranks with its impossible strength. In mere seconds, the bustling center of activity at the crater lay suddenly silent. Without pause they passed through the carnage and approached the device, and gazed at the warning roughly scrawled on its surface ‘BEWARE!”.

The powerful drum and bass duo - TELEKINESIS - return for their 3rd EP - BEWARE! - on seminal tech label EATBRAIN. Their insertion of their latest spike of polished sonics sees the pair teaming up with label boss JADE, as well as one of the imprint’s embedded voices, NUKLEAR MC. With 4 tracks of weighted neural technology, designed to devastate both senses and the dancefloor, Telekinesis demonstrate slickly why they are renowned for consistent and poised sound system assaults.
