What do you do when youre playing at one of the biggest festivals on the planet, Tomorrowland? 

Well, if youre Steve Aoki you re-enact a scene from Titanic, if youre David Guetta you play your cover of a well-known nursery rhyme, and if youre James Marvel and D&B Award nominee for Best MC, MC Mota you debut your brand new single live on stage.One of the D&B scenes most respected record labels and a firm Zane Lowe favourite, AudioPorn, snapped up James Marvel in 2013, thanks to his fresh take on the genre. 

Having remixed both Dub FX and Xilent to huge effect recently, causing riots on 170+ bpm dancefloors across the globe, now its James Marvels opportunity to destroy dancefloors with his own original music.And so the story of two artists going to war with emotionally bland music begins. Way Of The Warrior is not only D&B at its finest and most energetic, its also drum & bass at its most experimental. With a combined history that expands over decades, Calyx & TeeBee’s discography is a journey which explores not only their own output, but the genre’s history. Having remixed commercial heavyweights such as Example, as well as underground tastemaker Tchami whilst blending genres and paying homage to their extensive craft, their experience is rivalled by none.

And yet again they continue their assault and return onto the scene with one of the most sought after tracks since its first play last year. Featuring the dancefloor genre talents of Doctor, who’s recently smashed his way onto the daytime radio airwaves, ‘Where We Go’ is a collaboration set to end the summer in spectacular style. 

An impressively innovative sonic piece of artwork, ‘Where We Go’ signifies another step towards the hugely anticipated ‘1X1’ LP. Crafting Doctor’s party-style vocals on top of an LFO-lead bassline and pounding drum patterns the first drop plummets you down a chasm so intricately constructed there’s no mistaking the duo’s signature production standard. One of the most epitomical moments from this year’s EDC, especially for representing drum & bass, there’s no mistaking the collective sigh of relief that it’s finally about to be unleashed.

Showcasing their impressive versatility, the flipside is just as impressive but a shade darker. ‘Ghost Writer’ utilises an imposing sample which sets up a break before smashing it down with pounding subs between a distorted bassline and elevated percussion. An early morning anthem which takes you in the murkiest corner of every club across the globe, it bares its teeth whilst propelling itself forward in a way which only Calyx & TeeBee can command.

Kleintierschaukel’s first release on Akumandra presents an unstable proximity to the archaic, with equatorial acoustics that modulate between organic and synthetic states. Drum'N'Feels is about the re-enchantment of culturally heavy sampling - an acknowledgment to an indigenous sound that warps the perception of home and away.

The first track, Long Time Ago, utilizes sporadic square waves as the engine and embellishes with a series of sensory sound cyclones.

Crazy Dayz is an auditory story telling of an event horizon that is never fully approached. Arbitrary vocals and low swells allude to the dynamic haze of nighttime euphoria.

The syncopated guitar strum provides an omnipresent reality to Kidz of Tibet - a deconstruction of a desolate, desert melody to form a vacant audio-synthesis.

Buffi and the Dolphins, the final track of the EP, is a full-bodied submersion into subterranean liquid percussion. The splurge on cavernous sampling builds the frequency layers needed for this multi-textural sound.
