When is a Baseball movie, more than a movie about Baseball? 

As told by director Carson Lund in his debut film EEPHUS, it’s a chance to explore themes of escape, of camaraderie, and of a deep sense of time passing. 

Named after a rarely deployed curve ball, the "Eephus Pitch,” EEPHUS is set in suburban New Hampshire, where that stubbornly independent New England mindset informs the players as they face change, and gentrification. The film uses a mix of comedy and drama, for both the baseball connoisseur, and for anyone who's ever lamented their community slipping away. 

EEPHUS is a baseball story that uses a non-traditional narrative, and one that leaves you with the feeling of a lazy afternoon, tuned to the rhythms of America’s eternal pastime.

Following a series of gay teen suicides, a deeply closeted filmmaker turns the camera on himself to document his coming out and search for self-acceptance and community. COMING OUT is the documentary, and Alden Peters is the subject (and also the director).

A closeted undercover cop, assigned to arrest men cruising in shopping mall bathrooms, grapples with messy, conflicted feelings when he falls in love with a married man he's assigned to entrap. PLAINCLOTHES is an intense, deeply atmospheric drama that explores the grey zones of authority, identity and the cost of living a secret life. We sit down with its writer/ director Carmen Emmi.

HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY follows the courtroom battles of civil rights lawyer Chase Strangio as he fights to overturn Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth while simultaneously confronting the media narratives influencing public perception of trans rights. Zooming in to discuss the film (just days ahead of the case's verdict) are director Sam Feder (DISCLOSURE) & producer Amy Scholder.

THIS WEEK'S SHOW:  Tackling an incredible musical challenge.

From 2012:  BLADE RUNNER is not only one of the seminal films of science fiction cinema, but considered one of the best of all time. Its synthesizer score by Vangelis is also held in high regard, but, due to certain circumstances, there has never been an official, proper soundtrack available.

To address this, producer/composer Edgar Rothermich was commissioned to recreate the score (for which no written transcriptions exist) as faithfully as possible to mark the film's 30th year in 2012. The result: BLADE RUNNER 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE. Let's revisit our chat with Edgar Rothermich!

SORRY, BABY is a hilarious and heartbreaking tale of quietly powerful triumph, of seizing back your footing after the ground is yanked from under you, and zooming in to chat about it is actor/writer/first time director Eva Victor (BOYS GO TO JUPITER; BILLIONS).

In the documentary WORDPLAY, crossword puzzles take center stage (with a focus on New York Times master puzzle editor Will Shortz and his many famous fans), and we have director Patrick Creadon and NYT puzzle constructor Merl Reagle, who works his magic before our eyes!   

Now on Blu-ray:  THE LEGEND OF OCHI centers on a teenage girl from a remote island who befriends a mysterious forest creature she has been raised to fear. Rebelling against the rules, she runs away from home and embarks on a quest to reunite the injured creature with its family. Writer/ director Isaiah Saxon talks about his feature debut: a tale of love, longing, and acceptance.
