Halloween Playlist: Techno Undead

Adam Beyer and Ida Engberg come together to create a new track after the success of the highly acclaimed 'Lovecraft'. 'Unanswered Question' uses a weighty kick drum and a sensuous vocal before the track breaks into some groovy synth stabs. Julian Jeweil's remix of 'Unanswered Question' is a late night dubbed out version that compromises of a groove that pulsates throughout and falls into the original synth stabs before rising back into the funky, dubbed out groove. The Dense & Pika remix uses unusual percussion to produce a chunky groovy rhythm. When the track breaks it takes the listener on an eerie journey before it kicks back in to the chunky drum beat. The final track 'Virga' is a more melodic techno offering that finishes the single off with a classy finish.

Ukrainian duo Woo York debut on Soma with the first in a two part series entitled Ancient Light. Denis & Andrew have been regulars on the underground scene in Kiev for many years now and with a live act armed with drum machine, samplers & groove boxes they bring their experience direct to the dance floor. This EP explores the deeper side of hypnotic techno. 

Ancient Light opens the EP with deep and powerful rhythms. Haunting synths float atop a bed of rolling analogue sub bass and a driving kick drum. Woo York create a perfect DJ tool with this as the track seamlessly flows powered by a real analogue sound.

Solar Diet ties in perfectly as yet more dystopian rhythms seep out the track. Crisp and snappy percussion back a dark and pulsing low end while a trippy synth hook flickers in and out keeping the one of this track firmly in the deep end. 

Woo York have crafted two fine techno tools doused with their signature deep and hypnotic sound, perfect for any DJ set.

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

	Astronomar's 4 track 'Mutant Club' EP (originally released in May) received big supports across the board, from all our favourite DJs. Each track a different chamber of the mind, with a unique and inventive sound. With that in mind, stems were sent to 3 of the most interesting and exciting producers in the scene and we had them go to work. Fiyah-hot Fools Gold duo gLAdiator took 'Drama', (the explosive collabo with Bot) to new levels of bass and hype with a smashing half time hybrid remix premiered by A-Trak at HARD SUMMER. Now, we make it no secret that we are massive fans of Fade To Mind producer Massacooramaan. and we were geeked at his ability to flip the playful 'Gargoile' into a percussive club weapon; this is some next level ish for the mind. Next up, frequent collaborator Sinden morphs 'HA HA HA' into a 303 whirlwind techno mastercut. Dark basements beware, this remix is no laughing matter. And finally, we offer the stem track of 'Thot Process', exclusively apart of this pack, and invite producers to give it a shot for a chance for their remix to be officially released on an upcoming Remixes compilation. Play these often, and play them loud!

	Astronomar is no longer a teenaged turntablism prodigy, but an Astronoman. An 'Alaskan' man living in Los Angeles, he's like the Chris Hadfield of club musics, but the doctor said his tracks were just too sick to travel to the moon. That was kind of lucky. For us, not him. He now devotes his time to earthly pursuits, like DIY arts and crafts plus chick peas. Did u know he also had really long hair at one point and looooves metal? This is where we brag and tell you that Iggor from Sepultura made this muthaf*#^in cover for us! In closing Astronomar travels around the world, and releases on labels like Mad Decent, Fools Gold and Owsla too. Those facts are also cool but not as impressive as space stuff.  He once killed a bear.
