This week, Brett Johnson recrudesced on Derrick Carter’s vaunted Classic Music Company imprint with his new The Bounce Is Back EP. The four-track bumper—the title of which builds off his perennial 2002 record Bounce!, also cut by Classic—takes a redolent dip into the sound of Johnson’s formative years. Although it may be a look back at his early days in the game, the release gets all done up in a nu-age manner.

Filling out the EP’s third spot, “Falling” is a vocally driven number that goes down extra smooth. Bubbling with a topline courtesy of Mikey V, sashaying basslines and cascading stabs work in tandem to lay the groove on thick. Soulful and strut-heavy, Brett Johnson hits it home with this retro-futuristic get-down.
