i got to travel a lot in north africa in the last years thru touring with blitz the ambassador and the studio session with oddisee for sawtuha in tunisia. while being there i did some digging and found some incredible music from the 60s and 70s. some of the music in this mix has zero info on the net, was never sold on ebay and has not been "rediscovered" yet. others are somewhat classics in the field of „arabic groove“. the music in this mix comes from morocco, libya, eggpt, algeria, lebanon and syria.

Dusky has been met with nothing but high hopes since they first kicked off their 17 Steps imprint back in July. Launching the label with their own Love Taking Over record, the UK musicpreneurs are on the way to hitting their stride through their first external signing with the help of Christian Piers—of A1 Bassline fame—and his three-track Beat Wiser EP.

Rounding out the release, the closing cut “Onn” sees Piers go to town on the drums, as he thrashes out a painstakingly calibrated club-ripper. Adorned with a tribal aesthetic, Piers pulls off a precise sequence of shuffling percussion and intricately netted textures that will throw you for a loop. Woozy and bewildering, the six-minute run will leave you lightheaded and jacked with dancefloor-induced endorphins.

Track of the Day: Christian Piers “Onn”

Submitting a mighty fine EP through Futureboogie this month, PBR Streetgang (Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe) links up with X-Press 2 (Rocky and Diesel) on a strong-suited collab titled Cosine. With nearly 40 years of experience combined, the two vet house duos merge their musical aptitudes to whip up two groove-concentrated productions. Cosigned with remixes from Lauer and A Sagittariun, this four-track monster is a dancefloor’s dream. 

Filling out the second spot on the release, “Key Free” is an unfettered effort with maximum effect. Rising pads set the mood, followed by a discharge of jolting, sweeping synths and on-the-loose keys that run rampant across untiring percussion. It’s a four-floor face-off on the black-and-whites that sees both entities coming out on top.

Track of the Day: PBR Streetgang & X-Press 2 “Key Free”

Dividing a limited-run 12-inch right down the middle, imprints RF and Subspec call on Rennie Foster and JGarrett, respectively, to each contribute two tracks for a split release. Both parties have done a bang-up job. Coming together for a sharply contrasted outing, the Vancouver-based producers are seen holding their offerings up to the light as they refract their own takes on techno. 

On the Subspec end, label boss Josh Garrett jumps in with a stripped-back club-jacker. “Waterworks” is an uncompromising, tweaked production that gushes with nonstop analog basslines and effective percussive programming. Precision-cut and minimalistic to the bone, this tune is evidence that you can use very few elements and still manage to move bodies.

The world is a stressful place, so we could all use a cathartic release by the time Friday rolls around. Luckily, there’s a new outfit out of Berlin that’s here to help us relax a bit. Today, A.W.O.L. celebrates their new release that just dropped on the esteemed @nobrainerrecords. The track is marked by tasty guitar licks and laid-back vocals that will make you hit the road with your lover with no destination in mind.

Track of the Day: A.W.O.L. Ft. Freedom Fry "Racers" (Radio Edit)

Raumakustik is up next to score big on Jamie Jones’ Hot Trax—an offshoot of the always-on-fire Hot Creations imprint. Being issued with a remix from the label boss himself on the flip, the German-based duo busts out with a stand-up piece of work. It’s straight-up bangin’. Tough and agile, their instrumental cut scrapes the barrel of standard techno sounds and rearranges them into an unexampled four-floor driver. Sebastian and Volker do damage here with a full-bodied rhythm, a commanding bell and an onslaught of hyperactive synth rolls. The dancefloor won’t know what hit it.

Track of the Day: Raumakustik “Raider”

At the end of the month, Tessier Ashpool will issue a tantalizing, floor-focused EP from the Parisian monarch of sub-bass, Le Dom. Aimed at perceptive warehouse- and club-heads, Domenico Bercelli swoops in with an exceedingly sharp four-tracker titled Oazis. Lending his minimalist aesthetic to the label’s machine music mantra, the release is a towering effort that’s been tailored for the underground. 

On the closing number, “Rub Up,” Dom employs a Detroit-nodding scheme that slips into booty-tech mode once the ball gets rolling. A meddling melody performs octave gambadoes amid clattering percs and walls of hardy low-end. Be careful not to get a dancefloor burn from this abrasive, 808-rubbed cut.
