Throughout my entire career as a musician I have had a seemingly endless folder of short demos, lost projects files,
things I’ll get to later but never actually will and assorted other abandoned ideas.
Some of them make up the best things I’ve ever written and for reasons that only the universe can explain, they remain unfinished or forever in limbo.

Strangely so many of these ideas seem to clock in at 90 Seconds and the idea to release a compilation album of them was born. Knowing how many people had mountains of similar short tunes, I assembled a crew of 59 artists and myself, making 60 in total. Each of us has unearthed something that we hold dear, or created something especially for the project. While focusing primarily on Drum and Bass there is other genres represented like Dubstep, Jungle, Breakbeat and Hardcore.

The 90 Second Maximum was initially a project geared around showing love to the records in history that mean the most to me. The time length allowed on my favourite social media outlet is 90 Seconds, and over the last 18 months I have been creating a body of content that is pure love from the heart. Sending flowers to the music and the music makers who have touched me the most. 

Now it is time to showcase some amazing musicians and in the process set free some of the magic these people have created. The compilation features a host of names but some notable mentions are Rusko, Ekko and Sidetrack, Zak Meow, Sadie, Physics, Armour, Kintsuku, Sample Bandit, Nixon and Pete Cannon.

Within the gaps in the cosmos and spread out amongst the stars exists a single force, one as equally integral to the worlds it envelopes as the very matter of which they are made up as it is antithetical to their existence. In its base state it is inert, idling within the dark corners of the universe with unparalleled destructive potential It does not rest alone within these far reaches of the universe however, for therein further lurk imperceptible beings capable of binding its discrete yet devastating power into weapons capable of sundering entire worlds. Though few of their ilk remain, such beings are driven by inhuman intentions, with an unending hunger for the destruction borne of their malevolent craft. Their machinations can only be glimpsed through those most frightening of words, and their desires can only bring about the most cataclysmic of events. Naught but for one tale of their kind remains and it is not one told lightly, for the fear of attracting their attention comes at its every telling.

It was once that there was a sister planet to our world, inhabited by a people much like us. Through manipulation of that same cosmic force, we had created gateways between our worlds, and traded often in the unique resources of which each planet possessed. The civilizations of both worlds thrived in this ancient time, as each learned and shared with the other through their unique interconnectedness. Yet all of this was watched from afar by pairs of jealous eyes, set within heads that wished not to see others learn the secrets of their craft. Thus it was on that fateful day when the moon came before the sun that all amongst both worlds beheld a terrible sight. Towering within the void that separated them was an indescribable creature that bellowed a single phrase: one world would end, one would be saved, and their link would never be again. Then in an instant upon our sister world came its fury, rending it to pieces as though wielding in its hand the LOBZIK which you know. In mere moments the link had been severed by the creature’s cataclysmic power, and in the sky above lay the fragments of the world to which it had once led. With the showing of the sun the creature was suddenly gone, it’s message made clear by what it had done. Thus it is that I tell this story with care, wary that I am of the hand which brought the LOBZIK to bear.

PSYNCHRO deliver their debut EATBRAIN release with the LOBZIK EP, following their appearance on the label’s DIVERGENCE II compilation which released last year. Featuring the trio’s jagged edged sonics and collaborations with further rising artists including Ridley Dynamics & Toyfon, LOBZIK sees the Russian trio tear their way to the front of the EATBRAIN horde with a four track EP that leaves nothing behind.

Welcome to a journey into D&B’s deepest, darkest, dirtiest underbelly…
Your drivers on this mission are veteran producers Gridlok and Prolix. With pristine reputations and spotless discographies that span back to the turn of the century, the respective US/UK artists need little introduction… Both as solo artists or as a collaborative duo.
Their trip commences with ‘Membrane’, a turbo-charged rocket ride into drum & bass’s most alien landscapes. Hold on tight as we negotiate the tight, gnarly bends where an itchy scratchy lead scuffs the spectrum with infectious, growling glee. Simple yet devilishly complex, ‘Membrane’ worms its way into the mind like an audio virus, refusing to budge until dancefloor insanity ensues.

Next stop: ‘Babylon’. As the name suggests, it’s rich in sonic heritage. Bolstered with the very belly-bothering, visceral distorted bass that got many of us hooked on D&B in the first place, the main scenery on this part of the journey are the unforgiving low-end peaks that spike with Everest-level confidence. Climb their summits and you’ll spot the badland pastures of neurofunk lurking beneath. The most uncompromising stage of this two part trip… Now you’ve heard it, there’s no turning back.

BIO :

Gabriel Mentis aka INSOM is a Producer & DJ born in Paris, France - but raised and currently residing in Athens, Greece. Trained classically on the Violin, he then transitioned to various roles in rock bands, an experience which helped develop his musical knowledge and background which he now applies to his music productions and DJ sets alike.
Around the age of 14, INSOM (a name taken from his graffiti art days) started to create electronic music using Cubase 2. After initial years of experimentation, Gabriel discovered the alluring sound of Drum & Bass - a style which quickly became his primary genre for musical expression. 
The year 2009 saw the first ever INSOM release, an offering known as ‘Fire EP’ – which he provided as a free download. Trust in Music followed with the first official release on a label in March 2011, a song entitled Times of Terror. Shortly after in the same year, Melting Pot released ‘Mineral EP’. From then on his music has gone from strength to strength, releasing on labels such as Mindtech, Ammunition Recordings, Abducted LTD, Sinuous, and many more.
His sound has quickly developed into one of the most unique in the Drum & Bass genre, gaining recognition from some of the names that inspired his creations. Jade, Billain, Optiv, Neonlight to name a few have support his music in the clubs and on the airwaves.
The fast paced sound of Drum & Bass is not the only area he has put energy into. Developing deep Dubstep under the name Wosui, and steppas as part of a duo called Dub Riots – it goes to show the extent of the creative power that Gabriel holds. 
So far – INSOM has had the honour to play in many locations across the planet. Israel, Bulgaria, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Czech and the UK have all been stops along his musical journey so far.
Looking forward, Gabriel is developing his sound both behind the decks and in the studio, he now looks develop the deeper side of his music across the entire tempo spectrum.
