IOD PREMIERE #005 // SORCERY - VIPER REFLEX

47 revisits German artist OAKE’s seminal track “Paysage Dépaysé” in a special remix EP.

OAKE have established themselves as flagbearers for dark electronica in the years pursuant to their EP on Downwards in 2015, making cinematic dance music for imprints across the experimental-industrial axis—including a solo effort on 47 in 2019. After a series of standout early releases, the artists put out one of their canon-defining tracks, “Paysage Dépaysé,” as part of the Monad XXIV EP for Stroboscopic Artefacts. Now, it receives the remix treatment on 47029 with three dynamic and radically divergent approaches to OAKE’s atmospheric and deeply melancholic inaugural work, which will be pressed to vinyl for the first time.

The newly remastered original song is a post-industrial dirge that weaves OAKE singer Konstanze Bathseba Zippora’s otherworldly vocals over a noisy mothswarm of electronics, but label veteran Killawatt revs the first version’s subdued threnody up to a dance floor-friendly techstepper. On the B-Side, remixer Lemna uses a more restrained style, enshrouding the instrumentals under a martial sashay of tribal breakbeats, while 47 newcomer Quelza brings the collection to a ruminative close by bending and breaking Zippora’s virtuosic solo through a latticework of glitched-out synths and percussive stabs. The third compilation (of four instalments) in the Various Artists catalogue of Pi Electronics is hitting physical and digital stores around the globe on the 10th of February 2023.

The concept of releasing artists, who performed at π parties (2014-2019) along with musicians who stood close to the label before and during its activity, gathers 18 tracks to the Limitation Compilation.

Music by New York City industrial legend Adam X, Swedish master mind producer Peder Mannerfelt and Irish Techno figure, Eomac (also one half of Lakker) finally takes its place on the label catalogue, along with tracks by the electro side of Italian born producer, Alessandro Adriani and the sound-aesthetic of UK hailing musicians, Slave to Society (formerly AnD ) and Sam KDC.
Berlin artists Alekzandra and Interviews appear with a synth leaning piece, and a hypnotic, broken techno contribution respectively.
You can also meet the sound of Tel Aviv’s finest electro duo TV.OUT on this release, which also includes a rare collaboration track by Ireen Amnes and Gramrcy.
Finally, ‘Limitation’ presents music by Greece affiliated acts of different backgrounds: from the dreamy guitars of Monochromatic Visions and the ambient/drone of Devika, to the broken beats of Zevla and Ønly, as well as the rolling techno of Thanos Hana. Not to mention the textures of noise band Phallucipher, the industrial slo mo techno of Thessaloniki’s, Archaic Intellect, and the noise-techno of label founder, 3.14.

A crossroad of different genres and production styles is offered in the formats of Double Vinyl Sampler, Double CD and digital for this compilation, titled “Limitation”.

Industrial Music Producer Geistform Releases New Album "Resonancia”. Renowned industrial musicproducer Geistform has released a brand new album titled "Resonancia", featuring 11 mesmerizing tracksthat explore the boundaries of industrial minimalism. The album is undoubtedly their best work to dateand is reminiscent of legendary bands such as Pansonic, as well as other experimental industrial musicpioneers, blending together elements of noise, electronica, and minimalism to create a sound that isuniquely Geistform. The album is a conversation between the artist and the voices in his head, sometimes these voices manifest themselves as a song playing in a loop, other times a raging roar. He protests, then resigns, looking for comfort in magical protection, even though it is not working any more. Truths have unfolded, making his whole world crumble and fall apart. The rage builds up, entering the most primitive mode, by following his instincts and attacking on sight. Then, a state of peace and quiet. Serenity. He turns outwards, looking for beauty in life, looking for God, some kind of protection. Al’maghfira evokes beautiful sorcery entwined with chaotic times, conveying its melancholic emotions into grim electronics. In these industrial and tribal signatures, you will hear the nuanced elements of forgiveness.

Prophän is the solo electronic music project of Othman Cherradi, based in Paris and previously in Casablanca. Cherradi runs the experimental techno label Rhadâb and is the co-founder of Mindless, a series of live events, podcasts and radio broadcasts. He acknowledges a wide spectrum of musical inspirations, ranging from industrial and noise to the undeniable influence of local trance-inducing musical practices and customs that surrounds him in North Africa.
