LA’s Warehouse Preservation Society cue up a suitably low slung and sophisticated release for Dave Harvey’s well established Futureboogie imprint. Dave Aju (Circus Company/Mule Musiq) completes the release with a proper tasty remix.

Comprising Travis ‘TK’ Kirschbaum & Tavish Graham, Warehouse Preservation Society have released cuts on Rogue Cat Records and Machine Limited, worked with such esteemed artists as Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca, Newborn JR, DJ Garth & Anthony Mansfield, and Paramida’s Love On The Rocks label as well as landing a spot on DJ Harvey's "The Sound Of Mercury Rising Vol II" Pikes compilation.

Our mates from Snippets Music our back with the fourth various artist compilation of their 'Reflection Lines' series. Yet again, the St. Petersburg-based crew serve up a great collection of tracks. This time around Snippets invited Ksky, Komartsov and Ellipse, who are already known for the label listeners. New friends from Belgrade - Cosmic G and Laars with a collaboration novella 'Trancia', Maksim Polivanov from Motorama under the moniker Neporyadok and his 'Jewel Box' and one of the most productive musicians in St. Petersburg — Rambal Cochet, also known as Volta Cab. FINA Records co-owner — Corbi, interesting duo who released their first vinyl on Gated Recordings this year — not even noticed, and the last but not the least is superb selector from Kazan, Tatarstan — Enfant.

There was much to be said for those operating in the shadows; they kept themselves out of the limelight, uninterested in adhering to stereotypes or expectations. They had no interest in such things, only in their work and their mission, which served those who upheld similar values and beliefs. What they were creating was guided by honest intentions; it was purely for the culture.

Far East Flight is the brainchild of Lithuanian DJs Jokios Kulturos and Adventure Society, who come together to share their love of hypnotic trance and the rave culture of the 90s. Set for release on Electric Shapes, who've recently put out EPs from Tadan, Rambal Cochet and Tribalistic Junkies Of Universe, the LP explores all corners of trance, from Goa rhythms and classic and psychedelic strains to downtempo, playful cuts.

As one of the people behind the taste making Subwax distribution, Baldo's pedigree within the European electronic music community cannot be under stated.

Here he pulls together seemingly dispirate threads of house & techno from both the past and present to create a well rounded and diverse EP on E-Beamz, from the reminiscent 90's garage house sounds of 'Ethereal Tubes' to the acid tech of 'Drive' and the unashamedly hands in the air stomper 'Ex Machina' (Power House Mix).

Human Endeavour Records announces its third release, ‘Comfort Zone’, from Geneva-based producer Reda Saiarh (@redasa).

Having appeared on the label’s inaugural Various Artists release, ‘Trains Of Thought’, Reda now steps up to the plate for his first solo EP on the imprint, which showcases his fresh, forward-thinking take on Belgian New Beat.

He approaches the traditions of the genre with a completely new twist that weaves elements of progressive trance, jackin’ 90s house and Italo disco into the mix, alongside his trusty bank of signature New Beat samples.

In his own words: “Comfort Zone is my space of creation, no words, only feelings and apprehensions. Each track explains a piece of my environment and experiences.”

Comfort Zone will be released in full on 14/02/23.

Brussels-based producer Andrea Mancini alias @clevelandmusicpage fancies swimming against the tide and his latest for Spanish outlet @hivern_disc - 'nDSi' - does indeed take us far away from the boring techno highway and main genre alleys, easing us into a world of playful electronics, bright textures and constantly changing harmonics.

Optimo Music Digital Danceforce is a label for new music but I decided I’d mix it up a little bit and throw in a small handful of reissues from the early 1990s. These will all share the same key attributes. 1) I have been playing them since they came out and have never heard anyone else play them. 2) They rule and are 100% guaranteed to rock a dancefloor if played at the right moment.  3) They have a timeless / unique sound and 4) You can currently pick them up on Discogs for peanuts.

First up, from 1991 is Ragga House (should be a) classic ‘House Sensation’ by Nu Jacks, which came out on Tim Taylor and Tommy Musto’s Fokus label, also home to cult releases from Bitin’ Back and The Vision,  a huge club hit from Egyptian Empire and Joey Beltram / Frankie Bones remixes of a chart hit, ‘Move Any Mountain’ by The Shamen.

‘House Sensation’ is out there on its own. It really does sound as fresh today as it did in 1991.  Written By Femi B, Mr. C & Neil McLellan, not to belittle the backing track which is a rock solid UK house belter with low slung bass, bleeps, crisp drums and lots of space the true star of the show here in my opinion is Ivory Ranks whose sensational Ragga vocal takes the track to a whole new level. Ivory Ranks lyrics are also a time machine back to the early 90s club scene, particularly in the end section where he shouts out lots of forgotten participants in the London scene.

Included on this release are the original Vocal mix and the No Trouble We Mix, a more dubbed out version with more input on the microphone from Mr. C, then right on the cusp of global fame as the rapper with The Shamen on their infamous 'Ebenezer Goode' no. 1 hit. 

Incredible to me this isn't better known / appreciated.

Optimo Music Digital Danceforce 019  - Nu Jacks - House Sensation (1991 reissue)

Following on from their contribution to the Butter Sessions Come Together compilation released in March this year, Melbourne’s Polito deliver their debut EP Ultraparallel. Polito is the collaboration between musicians Robert Downie and Finnian Langham and dancers Arabella Frahn-Starkie and Hillary Goldsmith. The ensemble integrates improvised techno and contemporary dance to form well-considered and captivating performances. The spirit of these performances are masterfully captured on the 12” record. On the transition between mediums, the group states; “we always aim to capture the unpredictability and liveliness of our improvised performances when we record, and try to sculpt the feeling of continuous movement which is so intrinsically tied to Polito’s identity.”

Ultraparallel consists of four tracks that were extracted from studio sessions, emerging organically whilst jamming. The EP’s introduction Hornet’s Web wields mutilated samples of vocals and spoken word, paired with abrupt rhythms to forge anomalous techno. The eponymous track Ultraparallel, recorded in 2018, is a dark and brooding arrangement with a murmuring melody and an infectious recurring bassline. Polito reflects; “this track is from the first batch of studio sessions we had as Polito where our intention was to create more discrete ‘tracks’ which could be played by DJs, rather than the longform compositions more similar to the live performances which we had recorded up to that point.”

Turning the record over, Seventh Limb embodies the music for dance nuance by infusing dub with sounds from outer-space. Polito reveals; “we wanted to explore creating something more in line with the mood of our live performances, which are typically slower and have a rather meditative atmosphere. The more relaxed tempo allows the dancers to move at a sustainable pace and gives the musicians more space to prepare and manipulate the various musical elements in real-time. The result is our first formal exploration of ‘the chugger.’” Ultraparallel’s finale Sublunary is a playful sequence mingling electronics with an airy clarinet and saxophone.

Attuned to their audience, Polito imagines how their music will be consumed throughout the creative process. They comment “while making music in the studio, we try to transport ourselves mentally to hypothetical dancefloors the music we’re making could be played on, adding moments and sounds which would excite, energise, disorient, or have some other desired somatic effect. We’re also considering not just how the music sounds, but how it would ‘feel’ when played on large sound systems.” Ultraparallel ultimately presents a refreshing visual take on literal dance music; a considered and holistic approach to enhancing the experience of listening and moving.
