Locked away in sonic solitude, Mind Vortex have been building these next four cuts with absolute precision. And being such a pivotal signing for the RAM imprint, it’s no surprise that this EP has been met with almost unbearable anticipation.

Few acts capture the vibrancy and pent-up energy that Mind Vortex commands. Another charged assault on the ears, the ‘Colours EP’ is definitely a return to form. An impressive feat, having already set the bar high with tracks like ‘Hotbox’ being showcased on label head Andy C’s revered Nightlife series.

With an authoritative vocal sample leading you ear-drums first into the mix, ‘Underworld’ is foreboding from its first bass riff. A jittering coaster ride, this is roller explodes on impact, taking you deep into its namesake. The artists manipulate synth in a way which often can’t be matched, distorting sounds and smashing the prototype to pieces with carefully fashioned hits of drum. 

One of their biggest releases to date, expect this EP to resound in both underground dancehalls and the headphones of dnb-heads everywhere. These four blasting production behemoths will ensure that Mind Vortex stay on the agenda’s forefront.

Minor Rain is an artist of real diversity and depth who has a deep emotive connection with the music he produces. An accomplished musician who plays piano and sax, drawing on influences from a range of diverse sources from film scores and sound design to artists covering all spectrums of electronic music such as Noisia, Audio, Amon Tobin and Hans Zimmer to name a few. Taking inspiration from artists of that caliber, high-end production values were always going to be an integral part of his work, this providing the foundation for his musicality, with the two elements complimenting each other perfectly. He’s an artist whose aspiration is to produce something truly unique and original. 

His latest release, forthcoming on Addictive Behaviour, highlights his ability to not only work at different tempos but also how he’s able to go from the melodic, to the dark and minimal or stylishly blending both laid over precision engineered drum edits.

Shimmering high hats, reverbed bleeps and haunting strings open the Flux track before a short kick and snare leads to the breakdown. Crunchy vox sounds combined with filtered drums and metallic synths ready the track before dropping into a big growling metallically industrial synth and weighty sub that drives the track on. And with a few subtle synth and bass switches this makes for a polished, dark and techy slammer of a track.

Eatbrain are a prolific label with an intense release schedule, who along with a slew of other European labels and European artists are skewing the D&B genre away from its traditional UK heartlands and truly making it their own.  In fact we would go as far to say as they are now dominating the scene, reviving it from its previous period of stagnation and instilling it with a renewed vigour and vitality that seems lacking in many British artists always looking for the next big thing.

Yet despite their factory floor approach to putting music out Eatbrain always manage to deliver the goods. Their artwork is singular and killer as well – demented, referential and comic book in style.

The next release from their continental stable comes in the form of the ‘Rawbot EP’ by Italian maestro Dabs (Davide Rustici) and like the rest of their roster is concerned with evil bass pressure and nu-school neuro dancefloor machismo. 
We have managed to bag the second track on the EP – ‘Hysteria’ – made in collaboration with Czech producer A-Cray, a tough, macho number that combines a nasty reese bassline with militant, short, clipped drums and darkside sound effects.

A purveyor of the spectrum’s deeper end, re-known for an ever quality output, we’re pleased to present the 2nd album from Zero T, entitled ‘Golden Section’, coming on Dispatch this Autumn.

Taking its name from a classical mathematic formula (illustrated on the album’s artwork), Zero T explores the science and maths behind beauty; the factors and stimuli that govern our perception of balance, harmony and beauty in nature, art, architecture and composition.

Exploring intrinsic reactions to music and how discerning elements can balance against one another, Zero T ventures into the senses across the album; from the mesmerising nostalgia of ‘Macushla’ and dubbed out roller ‘Everything Must Change’, to dancefloor poised punishers ‘Good For Nothing’ and ‘Wolf Tone’.

Comprised of 13 original tracks, plus two additional bonus tracks, the digital album predominantly features solo jaunts, such as the blissful title track ‘Golden Section‘ and opened by the elegantly arranged ‘Late Nite Movies’, however a few special guests also join the picture, for some more technically focused collaborations.

Linking up with Fierce on the unrelenting, yet, mischievously sampled ‘Cross It’, Zero T also joins fellow Dubliner Beta 2, with two industrial workouts, including harsh stomper, yet groove driven ‘Cairo’.

Utilizing the technical apparatus to investigate a long adopted term, Zero T carefully maps out the indices to deliver a classic, all-encompassing long player that evokes the senses in numerous ways.

February 2016 sees the 3rd anniversary of Houndstooth, and the label mark this with their 50th release. ‘Tessellations’ is a compilation of brand new, exclusive tracks from each of the 14 artists to release on the label.

The release serves to simultaneously trace common threads and highlight tensions within such a stylistically expansive roster.

Presented on a double CD and digitally, ‘Tessellations’ charts a path from Guy Andrews and Aïsha Devi’s widescreen soundscapes and the offbeat electronic pop of 18+ and Snow Ghosts, through the analogue 4/4 pulse of Marquis Hawkes and Shift Work, to Akkord and Special Request’s visceral re-imagining of hardcore.

Tracks from Call Super, Throwing Snow and Second Storey occupy those hard-to-define – yet often most exciting – spaces in between, gluing together the selection along with contributions from House of Black Lanterns, Soft as Snow and _Unsubscribe_.

Australia's Spectrem has been efficiently going about the business of making a name for himself since Technique signed him in 2013. Anyone who's been following his career will be aware of the breathtaking array of influences that shine through his music. His style is versatile enough to encompass everything from smooth and liquid to dark and grimy and pretty much anything else in between. So, what niche is he going to draw for this time?

“Culture” tells you its influences with the very first Far Eastern glissando on the very first beat. Then, as an electro-funk bass hits, those influences come into sharp focus, as the tune strikes the pose of a seventies martial arts flick soundtrack. The drop signals an instant reconfiguration of those elements into a ultra-contemporary dancefloor workout. Syncopated call-and-responses keep the vibe bouncy, but its the snaking, dance-galvanising modulations of the bassline that are this track's real calling card. This is a proper party tune by a producer that wants to make ravers move with a smile on their face.

Then “Shaolin”, as the name suggests, takes us a few more steps into the world of kung fu cinema. Just to show how deep his pool of ideas goes, though, Spectrem doesn't revisit the same territory. This one takes in tropes that real heads will recognise from classic Playaz or Urban Takeover material. There's the hip-hop sample, the Reese bass, the martial arts strikes, all giving a classic feel and offering respect to the heritage. And all that given a 2016 treatment to deliver the huge sound that the modern dancefloor requires.

So, once again, Spectrem proves he's not conducive to pigeon-holes. Even a release that, on the surface, stems from the same basic concept offers two wildly different interpretations. It seems as though this producer's supply of influences and styles is inexhaustible, so all that remains is to see how he's going to surprise us next.
