Today’s mix is a winding road through the mind of Ataxy aka David Eßer. The Hamburg-based ambient producer has been enveloping listeners in a warm blanket of sound and texture for over a decade. His skill in production brings such a fantastic dynamic and depth in his releases that it’s an instant hook for more on first listen. Ataxy has also graced the Sundays playlist several times through his releases on Healing Sound Propagandist, and Faint. Our next atist is a multidisciplinary project created recently by the evolution of different artistic and exploratory stages. This project has developed different facets, including a career as an interpreter and sound designer when experimenting with a wide variety of musical sequences and soundscapes.

It seeks the integration of oscillating interpersonal ideas among the variety of solid conceptions. This project also defines the transformation of the artist that has developed under different aliases for many years.

Each interpretation is made to create an atmosphere based on sound art, generative art and Techno in its different variations.

A mysterious producer named Martin Glass first emerged in 2017 with the release of an acclaimed LP which has since gone on to find some sort of strange cult following and admiration with certain circles.

"The Pacific Visions of Martin Glass" was released initially as a limited edition vinyl album but has since found a niche for itself between the realms of new age ambient and 80's hold music. It's wicked...

Anyway, when the mysterious Martin hit us up saying that he had a brand new project on the way at the tail end of last year we thought it might be the perfect opportunity to lock him down and ask if he's like to record a mixtape. After a lot of back and forth, many phone calls, a lot of hold music and some grumpy receptionists he eventually agreed.

The result is this wonderful dreamscape, just under an hour of magical weaving ambience, downtempo and a nod to 'Love On A Real Train' all thrown in for good measure. It's a bit special...

Ambient musician from Bruges, Belgium, Tom aka Atmøsphäre deeply investigates the conjunction between field recordings and natural sounds with ethereal streams of electronic sounds. His works were released on renowned labels such as @shimmering-moods-records, Neotantra (@user-397625752), @noise-is-space-rohs-records, Secret Domain (@hello_strange), and many others. POOLcast 034 - FØNØ

In this year's September issue of our monthly POOLcast series we present you a work by the Spanish artist FØNØ. We are happy to see that the goals we set ourselves with POOLcast are bearing fruit. Be it for artists who looking for a platform for experimental music or as inspiration for musicians who want to explore the versatility of art beyond their usual routines.

This is also the case with FØNØ. He reached out to us with an experimental composition of environmental recordings and acoustic instruments, supported by a surface of tapes and noises. He transforms musical and non-musical chords, raising sounds of piano, cello, guitar or violin into textures and atmospheres. It feels like receiving mysterious transmissions from a vanished isle via an old radio. Searching, hoping, redeeming, loving messages. With his work FØNØ creates a constant stream of alternating and merging emotions. Everytime you listen to it you will discover a new layers, transitions between feelings or musical notation.

Twice is duty.

RTS.FM Budapest and Szoba Studio creates an anomlaous concept called 'The Shelter'. 
The following sessions are specialised to contemporary, ambient and electronica acts of forward-thinking artists from the local circles. 
The venue of the recordings is Szoba Studio itself, a basement amateur studio hidden under a condominium. 
Besides being a constant meeting point for closed gatherings; the studio is a substrate for new ideas and projects like Deepfields. 
This time we borrow its warm and cosy essence to give stage for more home-listening productions.  

Apart from being a dedicated member of SzobaStudio and a key figure behind Deepfields, Csaba Timár as Mintaka is an old-timer music collector with exceptional taste and deep fanaticism for ambient,electronica and jazz.
Seeing him play this time for RTS.FM is a rare moment, he rather stays away from public performances.

POOLcast 046 – Sven Laux

After having presented mostly new faces in the last issues, it's time again to use POOLcast as a platform for our local community of musicians. We love to accompany the development of artists and their visions. That's why we've invited Sven Laux again for the September issue of POOLcast. He has undergone a remarkable transformation in his work in recent years. As an artist you are, like every human being, subject to constant change, this concerns your own work, your sense of self, your own personality and your social environment. If we look at the artist's pieces anachronistically and detached from the person itself, we could accuse the artists of indecision, but if we are able to place the works in the right temporal context, completely new perspectives open up for the viewer.

Sven, who was about to set up his own label Seasides on Postcards when he last appeared on POOLcast, now has three wonderful CD releases in his catalogue and the fourth one is about to happen. Sven Laux is continuously working on his vision of the fusion of melodic ambient, emotional drones, fragmented acoustics and modern classical music. The mixtape that Sven made available to us was created a little more than two years ago and shows impressively that apparent indecisiveness often turns out to be exactly the opposite. At that time Sven was still well known from his Minimal Techno releases on relevant labels like 31337, UNOIKI and Sleep is Commercial, but already in this recording his future change seems to manifest itself in a magical way. Melodic fragments, emotional soundscapes, granular textures and a clear vision, which at that time might have been called indecision, but today is quite the contrary.

Art is more than pure work.

The next instalment in the Theory Therapy series comes from a particularly special selector, Russia's Sophia Zhuravkova.

Sophia adores nature and it clearly shines through in all of her work. In what seems like a very short space of time, the composer has established herself as one of the most impressive young ambient artists to emerge from Russia in recent years. In 2020, she captivated us with an appearance on Stay in Bed Vol.2 — released on DJ Earl Grey's Best Effort Records — put out her debut LP Unseen on Prins Emmanuel's excellent Ny Agenda imprint and then gifted us with the expansive Obstacles in October. Like the best ambient producers, her music expertly balances background and foreground. Field recordings — from spoken word and white noise to the soft lapping of waves — intersect with more melodic passages: reverberant drones, diffuse pads and the occasional acoustic instrument. 

The same can be said of her Theory Therapy mix. It replicates the experience of being somewhere special — like the stillness of an empty park or a rainy city sunrise after a night out. Sonically, it is both intimate and immersive; synths, dronescapes and haunting vocals pull you into where it was recorded: in the warm confines of her home during a wintry day in Kiev. So put the kettle on and get comfortable; this is music made to be listened to closely.
