2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

Following the success of ‘Ride’ with Miss Kittin, eminent SCI+TEC founder Dubfire returns with another chaos-conjuring techno composition. Previously the sole-preserve of his epic sense-blurring HYBRID show, Dubfire is finally unleashing ‘Dust Devil’…

His first solo release in several years, ‘Dust Devil’ is all about precision momentum. A move that Dubfire’s made his signature, you can physically feel movement and destination throughout. Especially as we reach the short breakdown where the riff revolves faster and higher, providing space for the echoed stabs that whirl and twist around you intensely. As the drums re-ignite, the riff is suddenly converted into groove energy as the jack-minded persistence brings the elements back

together with pure focus. This is what Ali has to say…

“This was an instrumental I had done that I wasn’t quite sure what to do with. It wasn’t strong enough for a lead single and it always felt as though there was something missing; perhaps a spoken or sung vocal. So I sort of put it out of my mind until it was time to compile the music for the HYBRID show back in the summer of 2013. Once I had the backbone of the set list, along with the visual look, there seemed to be a more defined mood and look. And when I happened upon this track again it seemed to have been tailor-made for this show. It was also nice to insert something no one had heard before to break things up a bit.”

So has Maksim Dark’s remix of Dubfire’s classic ‘Rabid’. A staple weapon in Richie Hawtin’s sets since he debuted it at Timewarp, young Russian talent Maksim takes us back to the roots of Ali’s journey as Dubfire, stripping out the hypnotic percussion of the original while retaining the intoxicating textures and twisted processed vocal. Fixing our focus on the space-aged, widescreen synth strikes and relentless low-end pulsation, Maksim unlocks the SCI+TEC soul with his own set of unique keys.

Last spotted on the label last year with his critically accepted ‘Mountain’ EP, it’s clear Maksim has found his spiritual home. Drop either of these in the mix and we’re sure you’ll point many more people in the direction of their own personal spiritual stomping grounds. As always with Dubfire, techno materials of this weight simply can’t be handled lightly.

Back and fresh on the release circuit for 2k18 is Berlin-based Jose Antonio Garcia Soler, better known to his friends and followers by his artistic nom de guerre KID SIMIUS. The KID proudly presents his FLASHBACK EP, a heartwarming monster of a single featuring no-one less than the beloved band outfit KILNAMANA comprised of Enda Gallery and KID SIMIUS' brother Miguel Garcia Soler. With the original version of Flashback KID SIMIUS and KILNAMANA present a tender, yet highly emotional slow jam, a modernistic take on contemporary Future R'n'B and Urban Soul accompanied by epic synth leads, a sparse electronic and surely beatmaker influenced foundation. It's electrifying chorus touches hearts from deep within. On a remix tip for Flashback is NICONE. The German producer who's been stirring up dancefloors throughout the past decade with releases on labels such as Stil Vor Talent, Katermukke and his very own imprint Dantze. As modern architects envisioned, the structure of an object should primarily be based upon its intended function. Therefore, Piet Kaempfer and Ralf Dietze, aka Protonica, the architects of this creation, decided that each brick, each curve and angle should be built with a lot of thought, love and devotion. Every piece of sound you will hear vibrating through your ear canals has been specially designed from scratch, and was tested under the highest levels of professionals. Thus, Form Follows Function is not like most albums which gets produced and released for the sake of being released, it is exactly the opposite intention – to deviate from the factory like music that surrounds us and craft a form that was thoroughly thought of before, while and after it was conceived.

Form Follows Function is divided into 9 different functions, which were modeled into 9 different forms that will suit its desired function. However, the function is flexible and dynamic, and enables each person that listens to the album to adjust his own prefixed functions and slide into a liquid amorphous ever changing entity. This album is the second masterpiece from Protonica, which comes 5 years after their debut album Search, which was released in 2007. Now it seems that the search for their own style is finished, and the time to dive deep and explore the next stages of their sound has come.

After 5 years of refining and crystalizing their sound, they preserved their old Acid influences, while combining new elements of Progressive and Psychedelic Trance. Dietze and Kaempfer followed the function of their name - Protonica - which means positive charge, and always had the dance floor in mind in order to tell hypnotizing stories which will enchant every person. The guys have collaborated with other superb artists such as Liquid Soul, aka Nicola Capobianco, on the track Floating Point, and another exquisite joint venture where they marked their point of view on Ace Ventura, aka Yoni Oshrat, and Rocky's, aka Roy Tilbor, track Serotonin Overdose.

What you can hear on this work is Based On True Stories. One of them... Somewhere in the studio of the guys there is a rotary fader under which is written the word 'pressure'. The two of them cranked it up so much, it just broke off. The result? Outrageously fat offbeat grooves, going straight through the listener like a mighty electric discharge.

Continuing their go-getting style, Fabio and Moon fire sleek rhythms and their typical club samples all over the stereo panorama. Sometimes they add playful vocals, sometimes film music, and sometimes it is just super smooth, melodic elegance. In doing so, the album develops some proper atmospheric depth and a critical mass of hit potential for all lovers of modern Progressive Trance sounds!
