It's sometimes unexplainable; it can be simply a feeling and not always something tangible. Of course you're drawn in by landscapes or delicious cuisines, by the pace of life and the lifelong friends you make connections with. When you visit a new city, the questions swirl around your head 'can I see myself living here?', 'can I drop my life back home and start afresh here?' If the answers are yes, you might have some planning to do... 

After playing one of System 108's regular events in Moscow, Omnidisc boss Danny Daze became enchanted by the city and the crew behind the party-turned-label, so much so he extended his flight. He channels that passion for the Russian capital into his new release for System 108; a split EP alongside one of his production heroes and friends, Anthony Rother. Inspired by and dedicated to Moscow's atmosphere, the pair's Binary EP is a blend of raw dancefloor-orientated techno and electro, with the title track getting a remix from Etapp Kyle and Tarra who twit it into a bass-driven electro cut.

If you’d find yourself wandering around the forests of Breda, a city in the south of The Netherlands, there’s a good chance you would bump in to Ineffekt, an 18-year-old, Utrecht-born DJ and producer. Ineffekt’s first exposition as DJ was in Utrecht, where he gained recognition for his gloomy and trippy sets and soon he began to pick up more gigs around The Netherlands (Basis in Utrecht, Bret, and Radion in Amsterdam and Doornroosje in Nijmegen among others) and developed a broader interest in combining different musical forms, a fascination that never ends for him.

Ineffekt's debut is out on Intercept Records on May 8th. Opener Broken Dreams starts off rough, with a non 4/4 beat and a driving bassline that takes you straight into rave territory. B-side Solaris does the opposite. With its expressive vocal pads and dreamlike melodies, it’s a track that’ll surely bring the listener to a melancholic euphoria. This euphoria is further emphasized in the ‘Empties Our Souls’ version of the track, where the drums are stripped to reveal even more of its ambient backbone.

Gnork’s leftfield dance label Earth Plates returns with their latest vinyl release, this time with fellow Hungarian CT Kidobó’s Exboyfriend EP. Kidobó may have been slightly under the radar in their Budapest locale, but is wasting no time making a name for themselves with flaring analogue electro flavor. The EP begins with two powerful electro tracks by Kidobó and the flip side features two great re—interpretations (both with a healthy dose of acid) by Label head Gnork, and Zurich’s Douala.

The title track Exboyfriend starts the EP off with a bang. CT Kidobó’s fast-paced and commanding drum programming recalls pre-pandemic memories of dimly-lit, intimate dancefloors while the heady melodies offer moments of foggy bliss and cloudy introspection. The vocal sampling in combination with lush melodic tones offer a dreamlike human touch in what is otherwise a robotic infusion of sounds. If this invigorating and deep electro style is what Kidobó has in store for listeners, there is no doubt you’ll be hearing more of them.

The Exboyfriend EP marks the second physical release of 2020 for Gnork’s Budapest-based Earth Plates label, and is CT Kidobó’s first time on wax. It is scheduled for release on September 15th.
