Bassbin dons Low Jack, Simo Cell and Peverelist do a triple tub rinse out for Simo Cell’s Temet, mixing up 90’ of grime, UKF, breakbeats, and mutant bashment business with inexorable flow.

On the A-side Pev & Simo turn the timeline from early ‘00s to 2020 inside out, running killer drums and duppied sound designs from the early heyday of dubstep, thru the infectious percussions of UKF, to grimy breaks and technoid twiss-ups, including no doubt at least one of Pev’s own zingers up in it. With the flipside Low Jack and Simo bring the tempo down a few gears to work around slippery dembow and dancehall patterns, shuffling up recent gear off Livity Sound with late ‘90s ragga instrumentals, proper, and at least a few of Low Jack’s bashy, dare-to-be-different edits for the meanest sort of clipped dancehall pressure.

Both mixes are taken from dj sets recorded live at Trempolino in Nantes during Simo Cell's residency with Peverelist and Low Jack (between 2018 and 2019). Props to Phil and Tom for joining, U R LEGENDS.

'Improvisations', a new compilation from Rinse France's Clad, pulls together future-facing sounds from various close friends and affiliates, half French and half international. UK electronic artist Troy Gunner features on the Grid Records release alongside E-Unity, Kevin Murf, C.Coiffure and more. The compilation's concept is a chance for artists to dip into genres and sounds they're not known for, and on 'The Way You Went Away', Gunner eschews the sorts of darker bass explorations he's made his name with. "This track was recorded on an Uno synth and reflected back in on itself via a spiderweb of effects chains that sit as a foundation around a series of field recordings made across Berlin and Bristol," Troy Gunner says. "It's a deeply personal piece I hold very close to my heart which I originally planned to keep close to my chest indefinitely, as it's dedicated to a good friend that passed away who I sorely miss. Shouts to Clad for putting it out on an absolutely incredible compilation among a plethora of artists I'm really excited about - there is just too much good stuff coming out of France at the moment. Shouts to Haider for gifting me the synth that I built the track on, and for his wisdom (which I've actually sampled in the middle section)." Featuring ASMR-like whispers and intricate sound design, the beatless cut is a beauty.

Korzi embarks into new territory with this EP. Meandering around a slower tempo of 100 BPM, ‘Terra Preta’ encompasses three tracks that establish a fresh sound for Korzi. Proving his authenticity as an artist who constantly strives to discover new ground and breach boundaries. This marks the debut artist-led release from @LEFTRIGHTANDCENTREUK in which Korzi is the co-founder.

Based in Manchester, Korzi has been producing music intermittently since 2015. He is inspired by Soundsystem culture and music of low frequencies, which ties in with the label’s ethos to showcase the forefront of low end driven sounds. Prior to this, Korzi has released four EPs with other record labels (‘Move’, ‘Tommy Club/Playtest’, ‘Sound Freq’, ‘Footslog’).

Concluding the EP is 'Basmati Bandit', a track that brushes on more of an industrial flex with Korzi’s signature surprising rattles and twangs. A new direction for the young luminary and feet firmly in the ground for Left, Right & Centre as a record label.

We are proud to present our next release, Lemma2! 

As a true lemma it both stands on its own and supports the larger theorem: to explore bass heavy music across a span of tempos and time signatures. Lemma2 goes deeper into the ideas presented in Lemma1, this time drawing inspiration from DnB, Dubstep, and Footwork. The result being a collection of sprawling 160BPM polyrhythmic rollers.

Side A ventures into sound design, mangling field recordings collected on travels far and beyond into almost unrecognizable shapes. Side B takes on a more percussive tip, driving for the dance floor with some stepping d&b-not-d&b business and footwork interpretations.

PREMIERE : Le Matin (@cestlematin) - What Would We Do [LAN] (@lan-berlin)

With a name like “Le Matin” - French for “the morning” - one could be forgiven for expecting something mellow. Gritty drums are layered over revolving time signatures, taking inspiration from footwork, grime, hip hop and rave. Le Matin celebrates the power of a vocal sample, chopping, reconstructing, looping to infinity and re-emerging with momentary clarity before diving back into disarray. Claiming that “we can change the party”, or “I just took my first shot”, his sense of humour is as strong as his sense of rhythm. Noisy hits pan and shake from one side to the other, turning the body to butter, Le Matin is a master of deranged patterns. Simple yet effective, his latest release is sure to unhinge any joint.

The field was empty and bare but for a small patch of colour and greenery in the far corner. Here the wild flowers grew amidst what was otherwise a bitter and barren landscape. They were a radiant showcase of pinks and purples, reds and yellows, blues and oranges. Stood beside the small flower bed he looked backwards towards the city from where he had came, it was a collection of dense grey and black shadows in the hazy glow of the late afternoon sun. It was bleak out here but for the tiny patch, it was all that was left of colour in this world. 

Baroque Sunburst is a relatively new record label moving with a quick pace and a keen ear. The label is set to release a new EP from Soreab and it's an interesting, pensive affair.

For their first release of the year Oscilla Sound hand over the reins to Baroque Sunburst co-founder and Honest Jon’s team member Big Hands. Much like the rest of Oscilla Sound's catalogue — which includes instalments from Significant Other, E-Unity and Wilhelm — intricate drum patterns and murky bass play a central role, seeing him explore organic textures, rumbling low ends and enchanting polyrhythms.
