In 1979 Suns of Arqa creator and mentor Michael Wadada set about recording the ground breaking Suns of Arqa album 'Revenge of the Mozabites' with his friend Adrian Sherwood. Together they formed the ‘4D Rhythm’ label – the world was not ready! Wadada retreated to the Pennine mountain range in Lancashire, Adrian Sherwood went on to create the formidable ‘On-U Sound’ label. Three years went by before a a very curious Peter Gabriel came across a rare copy of that first Suns of Arqa album; he was putting together the very first World of Music and Dance festival (WOMAD), and asked Suns of Arqa to come and perform. 

Revenge of the Mozabites is where it all started, this truly eclectic album of world-dub-east-west fusion from Suns of Arqa, ignited what would ultimately become the new World Dub Dance genre which has influenced & inspired so many artists today.

Power Salad is the debut album from Melbourne based duo Sunmonx. Combining Opiuo's renowned production style with Austero's tasty guitar grooves, this refreshing sonic fusion weaves together threads from the worlds of blues, dub, funk and beyond. Lovers of bass music, glitch and all things electronica will find plenty to satisfy their cravings within the solid basslines, crisp production and the precision attention to the finest micro-details.

Sunmonx have kept themselves busy in the acoustic kitchen over the last 3 years, carefully combining their nutritious homegrown musical ingredients and perfecting their gourmet dub-infused recipes. Power Salad contains nothing but the freshest fruits of this labour, cultivated as the pair step beyond their self-released Rigiti EP, a 4-track teaser that caught the attention of Interchill Records and many other downbeat lovers around the world. Picking up where they left off, Sunmonx hit the studio with innovation in mind and set out to explore new dimensions of the electronica spectrum. They came up with an energizing album where progressive beats mingle with a prevailing thread of guitar, uniting this diverse palette of sounds and styles into a cohesive and delectable whole. I was invited to play some music during a friend's 30th birthday party. I knew most of the friends there were really into psychill so I kept returning to that genre during this mix. Overall a mellow vibe with a few peaks of energetic downtempo. Den'Rozhdeniya means "Birthday" in Russian.
