In this episode, we speak to Zeelie Brown, a Black, queer artist and cellist based in New York City. She creates “soulscapes”: sites and soundscapes that invoke the temporality, sacredness of connection, and layers of history embedded within feelings of refuge. Zeelie’s sanctuary spaces draw on her personal and ancestral traditions of music, cuisine, scent, ritual, and community. Throughout this episode, you’ll hear music that Zeelie has produced as a part of her practice.

This episode stems out of a partnership with Brooklyn Public Library, where we explore how different organizations, groups, and people aim to create space for folks who are often disenfranchised and disempowered by normative systems at work in our world. Stick around at the end of the episode to hear from Tim Barrigan, a literacy advisor in the adult learning center at the Brooklyn Public Library.

In this episode, Brooke Shuman talks to Kevin Caplicki, one of the founders of Interference Archive and a member of Justseeds.  Founded in 1998, Justseeds is a worker-owned cooperative that produces politically-themed prints.  With members working from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, Justseeds operates both as a unified collaboration of similarly minded printmakers and as a loose collection of creative individuals with unique viewpoints and working methods.  Justseeds produces collective portfolios on subjects including climate justice, the Zapatista movement, migration, reproductive rights, and the US prison system.

contemporary electronic music world over the last ten years. As head of the vital L.I.E.S. label, and as a DJ and a producer, he has, in his own words, "unintentionally" shaken things up with a forward thinking sonic aesthetic which evolved from a tight knit group in his local NYC scene. Now globally recognised (and often imitated) Morelli is known as the centerpiece of this new wave, continuing to confound expectation with each new move, always with the goal of evolving in one form or another.
