Scores is a compilation exploring musical notations and how they can be interpreted as sounds. People have always tried to translate sonic expressions into visual cues that could be archived, passed down, and transformed back into music. 

From symbols to numbers, grids, staffs, figures or abstract shapes, several languages have been developed and continuously questioned to improve the ability to retain the emotion and meaning sounds can convey - what lies behind the veil.
 
What if this time, the notation would come beforehand?

The project unfolded in two phases. In the first one, visual artists from the Global URL Nation could propose one sheet of music score, free of interpretation. They were invited to play with musical notations and explore what it would even mean.

In the second phase, artists from GUN could pick one sheet and create a track trying to follow it as much as possible. It invited them to question music as a physical object, with its shapes, colors, textures and layers with the following :

__How is the overall composition? Are there any axis or lines that could be interpreted as a timeline or a melodic scale?
__How many discrete elements are in the image? How are they laid out?
__What are the shapes involved?  What is their scale? Do they have sharp or blurry outlines?
__What are the colors/textures used? How do they relate with each other in terms of tones, contrasts…?
__How are the different elements layered on top of each other? Are they superimposed or do they merge in some way?
__How would they translate them in musical terms, such as textures, notes, structures, timbres, rhythms, dynamics? 

It welcomed Bademjan, Baje Nunca, C+Vis, Capiuz, Clair X, C.T.A.A.M.  Ecovoron, Epiphagi, HeedLess, Mambo Kahn, migu, POL100, Yau Hei ASJ & Ziyiz for 14 tracks ranging from ethereal scorescapes to hyperstimulating scratches. Sounds and shapes weave together, blurring the boundaries between the two media to create one whole entity

Sami Baha’s third album, Mistarget, marks the inaugural entry for Amel’s catalogue, a new- generation label he co-founded in 2024 promoting a non-sectarian approach to what being a label is about. The EP distills Baha’s diverse influences as a globetrotter. Eclectic but effortlessly digestible, Mistarget blends dreamy synth backdrops and hip- hop adjacent beats with techniques borrowed from the post- clubbing world Baha is close to. Featuring his signature style of acute refinement-meets- unfamiliar detours, Mistarget is an exercise in sonic detournement, shaping familiar sounds into new forms. Club atmospheres and crescendos alternate with moments of repose, weaving intricate textures and palettes into an unpredictable sonic kaleidoscope. 

Reality kicks in with Hunt’s synth stabs and frenetic drum patterns, paving the way for an almost claustrophobic melody and Baha’s signature deeper- than-life bass progressions. 

An almost glam riff coming out of nowhere, dissolving as quickly as it came. Pressing, haunting drums. A flute, sampled screams. A synth refrain comes and goes, only apparently without a pattern. Mistarget, Sami Baha third Album’s first single and title track, feels like being in a chase —An aetherial, deconstructed take on trip hop sensibilities meeting trap bravado. 

Cutting through the calm, Sato is a triumphant aggregation of noise and pixelated drums, where the purest underground rave attitude meets a deconstructed take on techno’s most familiar tropes. 

Step into Mistarget world. A tapestry of ambient sounds in Passages opens up the record. A lost fragment of a soundtrack for a film that never existed. 

Spiraling vocal samples drive Mistarget’s most willfully raw moment, Dogru. An interplay of guitar and drums that is Baha’s most evident nod to the beat-making side of his practice. 

Bakar Feek, featuring Vocalist Almaazz feels like an alt- acoustic take on an 80s Istanbul midsummer neo-pop dream. 

With Aml, we are gently rocked back to Baha’s beautiful dream-esque arrangements,a rainy-day combination of glowing, airy synths, stuttering percussion, and a relaxed downtempo arrangement.

Welcome to North XR, a concrete industrial complex isolated from the outside world, crammed with industries and dormitories, frozen in time in a state of total control! An autocratic playground of private enterprises and corporations, lit from within by an LCD dome, acting also as a hothouse for the illegal activities of those involved in the extraction and sale of physical storage devices.
North XR is the story of one twenty-four hours in the hyperbolized environment of the North of Moscow of the near future. The album acts as a guide to the fictional city - from the jaunty and daring first impressions in the form of reimagined club anthems of the 2010s and high-speed happy rave motifs, to the roaring and subcortical synthesizer parts and heavy, club rhythms of jersey, gqom and drill by the end of the journey, after the encounter with a hard and unforgivable reality.

The online radio station Retreat Radio has acted as a unifying force on the underground scene in Malmö for close to a decade and now offers its first compilation of original music from its vast community.

A community grown exponentially like a virus, with Retreat Radio as the source of infection, comprised of artists in various stages of despair revelling in hazy ambient, angular industrial rhythms and post-dub influences. Now bringing you 24 tracks of frog-induced head music made for a sad generation that wanted to be club kids but had no club to go to.

Many - if not all - of the names behind this mammoth of a compilation are Retreat residents with current or past monthly shows on the programme. Many of whom have walked the stark lit street at the outskirts of town at night to climb a spiral staircase above a carwash to play their shows.

Loosely centered around the interpretation of dub as a genre, the compilation hand-picks a curation of tracks which nonetheless point to a coherent vision: that of dub as a vital cornerstone in the development of new music reflecting on an urban post-capitalist environment.

"5NONE5 is an ambient/drone project by someone with a guitar background. In his previous bands, Ihor L. tried his hand at shoegaze (My Sister Specter, 2009-2012), noise (Autowoman, 2013) and minimal synth (Karr, from 2013 to today). The first EP consisted of reworks of the personal library of samples, while the next record was built around abrasive song structures akin to the witch house releases of the late noughties.
The name 5NONE5 is a visual parody of the iPhone5S model name."

«hell is now love is a return to texture and drone-focused sound that 5NONE5 started with but it also references the granular post-punk melodicism and builds a dialogue with the Ukrainian experimental and noise scene. The synthetic sound of previous releases reaches its peak here, bringing to mind Danish coldwave, particularly Vår, an important source of inspiration for the project. The sugary melodies of classic shoegaze fall apart across the album’s six tracks, but the process of self-destruction makes their subtle nature shine through.
A minimalistic FKA twigs rework adds to the record’s vulnerability just as much as the cover: a shot of a crumbling audio tower from the movie Trainwreck: Woodstock '99 resembling both a cross and a sword.»
