Originally a poem which was written by my beloved one. I thought in return I would like to make a little song out of it, so this is my humble attempt.



Wie Sonnenlicht
Du bist wie das Sonnenlicht am Morgen.
Flutest den Raum,
rüttelst mich sanft aus einem Traum,
bist der immer helle Impuls zum Erwachen.
Du bist wie das Sonnenlicht am Mittag.
Stehst im Zenit.
Und was auch immer geschieht,
Du bleibst der intensive Schein über meinem Schatten.
Du bist wie das Sonnenlicht am Abend,
das am Horizont noch schaut.
Entgleitest sanft meiner Haut

Holding a cold metal rail
The sea is performing an acrobatic stunt

The seagulls shine in lung darkness

My unshared french fries

I’m running flat out through the arcade
Throwing coins up into the lights
The traveller king spins around
"Kiss-me-quickly" hat on
But he doesn’t see my surprise

you can't know what you want if you don't know what you have
to find someone to trust you must first trust yourself
if you are your own person.don't run with the crowd
then don't let talking heads put words into your mouth

you fear things that aren't real
hate people you don't know
you're surrounded by bounty but you're hungry all the time
you can't see the beauty
cause your dark soul's made you blind
turn off the internet and use your own mind

you can't know what you want....

if your priest or your iman is telling you to kill
is he talking as a man or expressing God's will
do you really think if you think this all through
that God wants you to kill someone that you never knew

you can't know what you want...

so look all around you
use your own eyes and ears
you have the strength within you
do do right without fear

My paternal grandmother, Frances McGill, was always a bit rebellious and rambunctious. As a child, she spent most of her time chasing adventures outdoors and survived a number of mishaps, including a life-threatening snake bite.

Following her mother's untimely death, she dropped out of school to get married. Her husband served in the military, then eventually became a minister. After 15 years of marriage, a son arrived (my father) and she dedicated her time to raising him. It was while raising him that she returned to school. She graduated from high school when he did, eventually going to college and graduating with a degree in Education.

Widowed at 50, she rebuilt her life and focused on teaching until she was in her 70s. By then, she’d been a nearly constant presence in our household. She was still a rebel in many ways (there are LOTS of stories!), but she had a deep, unstoppable faith that kept her going through the tough times.

When I think of her, I think of all the times we laughed together, but I also have wonderful memories of hanging out with her while she played the piano (or her Martin guitar) and sang songs. Her favorites included “Frankie & Johnny” and a variety of hymns. She’s been gone for almost 30 years now, but I think of her often. Her greatest legacy to her family includes her faith and the joy of music, which are the basis for this song. This piece is dedicated not only to her, but also to my mother and mother-in-law who left the same legacy.
