It's always very touching to find musical testimonials. Over 20 years ago, my booking agency asked me to record this mix. In 2002, I was very inspired by the San Francisco scene. There were some great labels, DJs and artists there... What makes me happy is that I could still play 95% of those records. Time goes by too quickly, but I'm still as passionate and involved as ever. It was a great period, we played 100% vinyl, I scoured the record shops... This mix is an opportunity to look back on a past with tons of great memories. EPM Podcast 168 – comes from Petals in Sound (Louise Baldwin). The Liverpool-based producer and DJ has been making a name for herself in the underground house music scene for the past few years, crafting a unique sound which blends hazy, jazzy house music with deep, atmospheric electronic textures. Here we find Louise continuing her commitment to deep and atmospheric house with a mix that brings in tracks from Idan Hana, Cinthie, Bernardo Mota, Moonee, Taren Gopi, Roy Ford, Polytunnel, an exclusive from Louise’s own Petals In Sound and more.

Louise’s vast taste in music plays a huge part in the way her productions play out to the listener, as she draws influence from her love of disco, house and acid combined with guitar-focused genres such as shoegaze. She cites Daniel Avery as a big influence as well as the likes of Space Ghost and Retromigration.

Petals In Sound’s catalogue includes releases with well-respected labels such as Closer to Truth and she is a mainstay on Berlin’s Dirt Crew Recordings, having worked with a diverse roster of remixers from the likes of Bruise, Henrik Villard, Kaysoul, and Glassjaw frontman Daryl Palumbo. 

Petals In Sound’ music has gained support from Deeper Shades of House, NTS Radio, Rinse FM and the Sloth Boogie Radio Show, and her recent Dial Tone EP received critical acclaim in Chicago’s 5 magazine.

Her DJ mix for EPM includes a brand new, soon to be released Petals’ track titled ‘Furusato’ (Mole Music). This track showcases once more her attention to detail in terms of arrangement, creating depth and interest with luscious pads and intricate melodies against a backdrop of beautiful lush house textures.

Another month down.. another trip around the world! This time around we venture over to my good friends, Wilko and Olivier, better known as Dub Striker. With plenty of musicality and lush deep tones, Dub Striker is respected in the scene for not only their own productions, but their ability to curate. Their label, "Don't Need a Million" provides a consistent stream of quality Deep House with that classic French touch.

As with every guest, I love to invite the ones who bring more to the table outside of their musical preference. From my time managing The Underground Sessions, Dub Striker held down a monthly slot on Sunday afternoons. Through the chat room, we had the pleasure of getting to appreciate and respect one another through our love of music.

The Interstate 55 project was born of a friendship between two young French and American students in 1995, during a warehouse party on the south side of Chicago. Press correspondents for Coda and Trax Magazine between Paris and Chicago for 3 years, the two guys helped promote the Midwest sound in Europe. Interviews with the biggest legends such as Paul Johnson, Derrick Carter, Cajmere, Gemini, Boo Williams, Dance Mania Crew. The duo also helped to book many Chicago DJs on the Paris scene for public and private parties, and bookings on major radio stations.

25 years on from the best parties, Interstate 55 is back at the mix to promote underground once again, with current and older sounds, through the finest Radio Shows and the Lake Shore Drive Series. Deep, funky, bumpy, hard, soulful... House music is a reflection of life. It's a trip. This SoundCloud page is a tribute to all our friends who have lived and are still living this story deep inside themselves.
