THE CHAIN TUNES PROJECT (collective band name: THE CHAIN TUNES GANG)

BASED ON THE CHAIN LETTERS PRINCIPLE

A musician lays down an initial track and forwards ti to several musicians, they each add a second track and forward it to several more, and so on.

A universal format, like Cubase, would help, as it would mean the whole folder for each song could be sent to the next musician in the chain.

Each step of the process would also need to be sent back to me, so I can keep a record of it all, including details about each musician involved, their links and an email address, so you would also need to forward, to each participating musician, my email address together with the song files.

For many of us, this could be the stepping stone we are looking for; a simple concept so revolutionary that it could put us on the map, setting world records along the way, but the important factor, which would be the difference between grabbing the public's attention and not grabbing it, is sticking to using THE CHAIN TUNES GANG collaboration name whenever completed and uploaded, wherever they happen to be uploaded.

So think about the underlying concept here; it is a simple one, but that's what makes it brilliant!  ALL TUNES ON THIS PAGE ARE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD TO ANYONE THAT WANTS TO PARTICIPATE! 

I learned to pipe deep in the ancient forests of the Coastal Redwoods. My tunes echoed through the majestic forests and deep glens, both by Summer moonlight and in Winter's misty shroud, only to be taken in by the ancient trees. It was a place of such beauty that my pipes could not help but absorb the magic. And now you know an even greater secret. You can never be a Piper if there is no poetry in your soul.

     Now I live in the Great Southwestern Desert, as my Little Brother says "midway between sunrise over the haunted Superstition Mts. and sunset over the desolate White Tank range. For the "less poetic" that would be Phoenix, Arizona.

     Perhaps some still, starry, desert evening you've heard my piping on the soft, warm night air of the vast desert? You'll know it's me, by the sparing use of ornamentation, I love the harmonics and simply refuse to guild the Lilly.  


     How would I describe my music?  “High Plains Celtic”, straight from the Colorado Plateau. No accompaniment, absolute minimum of ornamentation, coloration, or grace noting, and no vocals. Just the haunting sound of a single stand of pipes, slowly, relentlessly, drawing you deeper and deeper into the swirling harmonics of this magnificent instrument.

     Pipes, as you might hear them on the winds of the high mesa, or perhaps some Saturday, off in the distance, piping the departed. Pipes, heard in the distance, carried on the wind.

NEW EP - En-Trance-D

Trance or achieving a Trance-like state is a spiritual experience. It can take to an experience of reality that is beyond normal every day thinking. Nature has designed us well, we are beings of light as much as the stars in the heavens, we are made in the image of the divine cosmic universe to which we are linked. Trance can take us back home, back to the stars, while still being on the Earth. All we need is the music, let your body and mind go and let the music take you home. 

 SINGLE - HERE I STAND-

The "Here I Stand" single is an expression of the deepest aspects of myself. The raw places in my soul that I have travelled to over the last years of my life. The places I felt I needed to let go and the places I needed to stand firm and resist the temptation to capitulate to a way of being that didn't honour my true self. The Goddess Ishtar journeyed to hell and back to save her lover and in the process she had to shed seven veils or layers of her personality (hence the dance of the seven veils) Its not really about being physically naked, thats easy, but getting emotionally naked.

The moment I heard the opening few bars of Gary Numan’s “Are Friends Electric” my life changed. It was like a doorway opened into a new reality for me. An alien landscape that I felt oddly at home in. Music featured strongly in my childhood growing up as the younger brother of one of the founding fathers of punk rock in Australia. I began my musical life with intensity and have never really looked back. But from that moment back in 1979 synthesisers and electronic music have been an integral part of my musical expression. Along the way I have played in a couple of synth bands, studied classical piano, cello and recorder including a stint in the local symphony orchestra. Far and away the most creative thing I have done in my life is to become a parent. Its the agony and ecstasy of this that has I believe led to “In This Mode”. At any one time I operate in a different mode or role all of which are aspects of who I am but none of them completely defining me and so all the while I am a parent living through the roller-coaster ride of emotions that can involve another part of me is creating musical ideas.

Musical influences are probably to numerous to mention but heres some of it, some of the giants  of electronic music, Gary Numan, John Foxx, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Ultravox, Visage, Human League, Tangerine Dream leading into The Shaman, The KLF, Front 242,  Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins,  Sisters of Mercy, Orbital, Dead Can Dance and more recently Assemblage 23, VNV nation, and Royksopp just to name a few. Along the way lots of classical music found its way in there and a bit of Jazz as well. The list really is to long to list so I won’t but my thanks to any one who has ever provided musical inspiration. In This Mode is a reincarnation of a once dormant aspect of my  creative self using synthesisers and technology to create electronic dance, synth pop, downtempo and ambient music to put into form what has been formless for sometime.

Thomas Magee was born in 1981 in the state of New Jersey. While in school he grew up as a dedicated band geek playing in marching band, symphonic and jazz bands for 14 years. Moving on with his life he had joined the US Marine Corps, moved over to the US Army and now currently still serving the National Guard. Music is what allowed him to push through his life and struggles that have come from all directions. Now Thomas currently creates his music that is a instrumental emotion placed for the world to hear and understand. This is done by using a balance of strings, hip hop beats, Dub style beats, bass, and many other mixes of genres all into one aspect of music.
