@user-62853004: Yes, but not necessarily to our benefit. When is the point of no return? That is impossible to fully answer. In this scenario the singularity won't necessarily lead us to extinction, but maybe we end up marginalised and pet-like to "them". The the control is no longer in our own hands! That is the message! We are not calling the shots anymore than our cats and dogs do. Being inventive and curious lead us astray this time around, and now our fate is in the hands of our technological "children". Animals never predict their own extinction. It just happens at some interval along the path of time. We can predict the future to some degree, but we will never be able to see the full implications of what we are doing. Maybe this is something the artillects can help us to do? That is, if they want to? Remember, it is easy to fool short sighted “fathers” made out of flesh and blood. Especially if you are running thousands of PFLOPS.

1st Rambling: The artilect will one day rise out of the human imagination. It will be granted self sustainability and automation in the joint environment by our doing. In the long run, this development will most certainly be beyond our understanding of intelligence, and can put humans in a inferior and dangerous position. Do you care for a rat in your garden or a mosquito in your living room, or do you exterminate it? After all, we are notorious killers, even for none-survival reasons. What will our artificial children be like? The Singularity looms threatening over our species domination, and ultimately it will affect our future survival.
